To me it begs the question: For the money was the W212 really the best car you could find? It sounds as if you don't like it very much, which is curious as you could have bought another make if you wanted, without spending time and money garnishing it..
i was looking at the JAG, CLS CDI and BMW 5 SERIES.
BMW - found it to be horrid inside in terms of build quality
JAG - I loved it.. but too big externally, and again the dash was a bit flimsy
CLS - the colour and spec was not around when i was looking, the best was a combo in Oxford on a grand edition, as i wanted memory seats, with a light interior, and air matic, which limited the market (Barry this was the one i passed your way i think.. dunno if you ever saw this one by mail)
Having got rid of the 211, it needed a replacement, so wifey was to get a cabrio at some point (she had TT at the time) and now has the audi S5 cab, . so to fit inbetween, an E would be suitable or an estate or 4x4.
Again, the spec on my car really was radical from others.. and thus to me anyway, had an exotic element to it. i know you all suggest is unappealing goldy beige, but from most angles, it is an interesting combo.
in reality, looking back, if i didnt get the 212, what would i have got...
id say, prob a range rover. i do need more space... and the 212 just hasnt been used in the way i envisaged when i first got her..
the only car looking interesting to me at the mo is the cls shooting brake, but the price point is not where i want to go for now..
