Converting to LPG - any recommendations/advice?

i think most people get a deisel now instead of converting.

BUT if you want to keep the car you have (a petrol car) then i think its the way forward.

Going to get it done i think... i think .... errm.

Still gotta look into it a bit more.

thanks for the replys guys/.

Its wierd that its never taken off in the UK as if you go to Italy and Holland there are loads of converted cars and every other car in Poland seems to be LPG.....personally I think its because the conversion costs in this country were a rip off...most companies I spoke to when I was looking to convert my Discovery were quoting £2250-£2500....I eventually got it done for £1650 and its a good installation with the latest multi point sequential systems......as ever its probably due to the fact that most people get quoted an exhorbitant amount and loose interest.

Perhaps buy a second car already converted? hmmm... but then again you never know what sort of condition the system will be in.
I think someone has put into words what I was thinking. This is probably what puts people off and possibly depreciates the value slightly, or maybe makes the car harder to sell.

I also recall there being a few complaints that a lot of stealerships are not certified to work on vehicles with LPG conversions so you are excluded from them for servicing etc.

I'm with Stratman. I simply don't trust the Chancellor to keep LPG cost low. After all look what happened to diesel. It used to be much cheaper than petrol until lots of people went out and bought diesel cars and then (surprise!) up goes the price.

It'll be exactly the same senario should we all start converting to LPG

I'm very happy with my convertion price compared to yours.

I have conevert my CLK 200K MY2001 Cabrio to LPG for 1200euro(790 GBP).
It is latest OMVL system (Dream X something, I don't remember it now)
As I do 40.000 to 60.000km per year I will take back my money in few months.

I still wonder why people here in Greece don't convert their car to LPG.

I understand people that don't do a lot KM per year.
I beleive they afraid a wrong installation, that will cost more in damages.

BTW what is the LPG price per litre in UK?
In Athens Greece it is 0,59 to 0,61 euro when petrol range is 0,80 to 1 euro.

0.45-0.48p per litre.

So you save more compare to petrol.
I have about a 30% economy, when you have 45-50% economy compared to petrol (I show prices .85 .90 p on internet).

Depends where you buy
garage forecourts in wales charge between 0.48p and 0.64p per litre, but if you know of a local company who have their own tank it can be as cheap as 0.35p per litre,

just goes to show how much money these gready people are making on our backs !.

contenplated geting my own tank as I do about 40,000 miles a year.
but the rules and regulations that are hidden behind this is a compleete maze !.
some fuel distributors wouldnt deliver to fill the tank unless it was one of their own systems which consiquently had an extortionate hire charge for the tank alone !

obviously any tank had to have an inspection and instalation saftey certificate so cant quite understand why they wont do a delivery
apart from wanting people to get tied into a contract for fuel off them alone !
