Coolant temp range 300TD

Hello,With normal driving my 300TD 1992 & I think is the W124 series runs at just plus & minus of the 80 deg mark. when cruising at at 80mph it rises to approx 87/88deg. Is it time for a new stat or could it be other probs. Also can anyone tell me what the small two armed sort of circlip on the front of the viscous fan does, can see a small pin underneath but the clip doesnt seem to be holding it in if inded it should be in. As a newbee to MB it all seems a little different to my old nissan. Great site & many thanks, Tankie

My 1994 E300 Diesel estate averages low to mid 80's, maybe on a long run slightly higher. This range of temperature seems okay to me.

Many thanks Dittrich, just used to a car that ran at the same temp but was also petrol,
just the clip thing on the fan to sort. Thanks again Tankie
