Correct me if I'm wrong.

Agree with a lot of what you say , but don’t see how taxing and insurance on a car should cover you on a bike. Simply put disc on bikes , simple let them be sold at post offices pay points etc ,and now and again randomly they can be checked by police,
How many bikes do you see without a bell or reflectors? Now extrapolate that to get an idea of how many people won't have a disc on their bike.🤔🙄

Based on observation I'm not sure whether there are a lot of Audi drivers who cycle or maybe that Audi have a secret operation to sell bicycles.
As a former Merc driver and now an Audi driver (and also a cyclist), I don't think I changed my driving habits...oh wait! Due to the lack of indicators on Audis, I now have to rely on hand signals, mainly the middle one on the left hand.

Yes, that's the issue. And the police would never have the time / resources to enforce it.

Round my way they're already not enforcing the masses of illegal e-bikes.

Other than minors, most cyclists will also drive, so are contributing to the coffers, in multiple ways, already. With minors, there's tax already being collected in the form of VAT.
..........
Taking that argument to the next conclusion one could say that any person that owns at least one “taxed” vehicle does not have to pay for any other cars, motorbikes, or bycyles that they might own or purchase.

Then there is the argument for those that do very low mileage (me) - why don’t I get a reduction of my road tax?

Every vehicle that uses the road should be taxed & show a registration.

Why charge pedestrians too then? They use the highways and byways.
I hardly do any mileage in my car, and feel the fairest option for ICE users is to have road duty integrated into fuel duty. That way, you can't dodge it.

Furthermore, why should we pay for multiple vehicles? We can only use one at a time? It's just a tax grab by Government and bears no relevance to road usage or maintenance.

Tax discs on bikes will never work - they will get stolen as the bike has no registration. Far better if they were a road fund licence for the rider regardless of what bike they are riding so staple them to the cyclists forehead.;)

I know somewhere else you could put them , up th

Don't be silly; that would never work.

(Staples can be pulled out. Tattoos, however...)

Large letters on the forehead.

A friend of mine had her brand new BMW t-boned by a cyclist going the wrongway up a one way. The cyclist just jumped on his bike and rode away.

The other thing is that any form of peleton shoud be banned unless it is an official event. Blooming pack of dogs in lycra.

Being Devils Advocate though should we also consider cars in a traffic jam the same?

Cars in a traffic jam? You're not in a traffic jam by choice.....those that ride in peloton are doing it very much deliberately.
Well you are, you could have cycled or taken some other form of transport.

VED for a vehicle is based on its emissions. How much will a bicycle pay?

I haven’t got a bell or a reflector but I have lights back and front and my ‘ride to work’ gear is all reflective or fluorescent.

I used to ride with a cycling club in my teens and the one thing they were really strict about was riding in groups and how we conducted ourselves to be safe and not hold up others un-necessarily - this was practised to make sure that new club members understood and could ride safely in the group. The standard of riding in 'peletons' nowadays is truly shocking - they just seem to believe there is safety in numbers and therefore can ignore basic road safety.

Erm... From Pedant's Corner here, a Peleton is a brand of static exercise bike, and a group of riders is a peloton.

Now if only the blighters in the pelotons were on Peletons, car drivers wouldn't give a sh!t...
