Corrosion decision by MB

Dear Ian B Walker,
what year did Mercedes start to offer paint warranties ?

I know that in my old W210 service booklet it gave the exact date, but it has stopped doing that in the 211.

It might not be of any use to you, but if your car is covered by either Mobilio or Mobilio Life it will have the details in the service booklet.

Other members have given a date of something like September\October 1998.

The warranty was deemed a lifetime warranty, but lawyers wanted an exact figure, hence 30 years.

Good luck,
John

I would jump at this. You have nothing to lose. They fix your car well, and you get a super sexy MB to play with.

MB rang me yesterday and offered me an 05 CLS 55 AMG on long term demo, if I surrendered my car to them.

I agree too! Get the CLS and let them take their time ;) :D

I agree, but I have even gone to 'elevation' (the complaints dept to complain about the complaints dept) now.

I reckon they are worried about the damage Top Gear might do to them, if they take up my case.
You never know, I might even say yes and get it in time for Clumber

Graham if you agree to surrender your car permenantly will they let you keep the CLS?

Worth a try. It just might keep you away from Top Gear. ;) ;)

To be honest mate I dont have a clue.

Definately 1998, October or November.

It doesn't really matter though because MB have no intention of paying out under the terms of the Mobilo-Life guarentee.

If you don't believe me why are they fighting every claim and then paying out using "goodwill" payments...watch this space, customers will give up before MB allow "warranty" claims.

Email already sent to Top Gear.
Am awaiting a reply.
Told them they could show the UK how bad it was and then blow it up with a tank

Have they clearly defined "surrendered" and "long term" ?

If it just means as a courtesy car until yours is repaired then wait and see what Top Gear say.

My opinion is that after the problems and lack of response you've had, surrendered should mean gave up permanantly and long term should mean until the CLS wears out. :bannana:

Just make sure you take that engine and gearbox out first :D :D

If the corrosion is from the inside, coming out, and your vehicle complies with all the stipulations laid down in the warranty then it is scandalous that you should be put to ANY inconvienance. The CLS courtesy vehicle is the very least they should be offering.

Will ring them back tomorrow.

i have today really played my face about by wifes e200 1999. they agreed to fix the rust 7 weeks ago. it has a rotten front subframe, 2 wings, bonnet as well as rust on 4 doors, boot lid, near side sill and both quarters. also surface rust on all panels including the front strut supports. they are trying to talk there way out of it now they realise it is so bad. they think like me it will be an uneconomical repair. they are trying playing the not full service history card. i have a letter from them on the 18th may reading:

With regards to the warranty paint defect claim on the above vehicle.
we are currently in the process of changing our systems to make the repair more efficient and effective for our customers.
we are aware that the estimate and photographs have been completed on your vehicle and will be contacting you in the near future with a booking date for the repair.
we thank you for your patience in this matter and look forward to seeing you in the future.
your sincerley Lee Winfield
service department, mercedes benz tamworth.

this to me looks like a water tight document to get my wifes car fixed for free. if anyone wants a photocopy of this letter to help with there claim just email me at [email protected]
i will be on a radio talk show on wednesday if they carry on trying to get out of the claim, then bbc watchdog (my wife knows a head researcher) and then local news papers who i have contacts. if MB want to play hard ball with me, i will fight back. also emptying there packed showroom has some cloat, just stick to the facts and no swearing. this worked with a vauxhall dealer 8 years ago.
people dont by mercs to scrap them at 6 years of age, my wifes car is a west german car, not a malasian car as they hinted. many thanks for all the help from owners so far.
regards rich
