I ordered CTEK MXS 5.0 Battery Charger to top up my Battery when the car was parked up, I also opted for the "Comfort Connect Cable" that plugs into the 12v socket in the Central Storage Box, I was after easy charging with no need for the cable to be either Hard Wired or the Bonnet open! Low and behold it doesn't work. :wallbash:

The car's "Time Out" Power Solenoid switches all off after about 60 Seconds, so the Bonnet needs to be lifted!

The only good point, but surprising, is the fact that I can still Lock and Kill the Keyless Go Feature with the Bonnet Open!

The hard wired option is best, comes with eyelets for the battery and comfort connector so plug and play once installed. There are also ones with indicators and a socket you can install for ease of use. I know this is what you tried to avoid but install it once and you are good to go

Done that with my CLK and Ponton, less likely to hook up wrong way.
Remember to disconnect the battery if you use ‘recon mode’, page 7 instructions.

I would be a little bit concerned as to whether the car goes to sleep with the bonnet left open. I always manage to find a small gap around the headlamp/grille to run the cable out and drop the bonnet. I then fully lock the car.

I kept an eye on it for the first couple of hours (my Beer fridge is in the Garage) the car didn't go to sleep and the Battery was fully charged by Saturday Morning! :D

John,

Sorry, I badly worded that :( I'd be concerned if it doesn't go to sleep if leaving the CTEK attached long-term. I would still close the bonnet. On the E coupe I run the cable out by the wipers. Plenty of room there. On the other car I run it out by the headlamp.

I got home earlier than expected yesterday so I had a scan of the Instruction Book and can't find anything mentioning disconnecting the Battery if using Recon Mode, can you explain/expand please?

***) ‘The quality of the charging voltage etc etc—— High voltage ripple could harm other equipment that is connected to the battery’ Checking on the internet the charger pumps out 16 volts therefor it recommended to disconnect the battery.
I have used this mode on my CLK, not taking chances on the fancy electronics I diconnected the battery.
I think some body on this forum will be better qualified than me explain.

Hi John sorry to dig into your old question. But I’ve just got a 2018 250 GLC. and I’ve just tried to connect my CTEC MXS 5.0 directly to the connections under the bonnet and it’s just showing the red indicator light. Non of the greens have lite up ? Have I done something wrong??
Regards Dave.

If you have connected directly to the charging points under the bonnet it should be OK. Just be sure you have made a good connection with the clips on the positive terminal first and then the negative post.

Thanks for that. I did connect directly to the battery but it only lite the Red light with the exclamation mark. Non of the other indicator lights lit up.
So disconnected it. Are you sure the CTEC MXS 5.0 is definitely compatible? Regards Dave

Apologies if this seems rude, but if you could post a photo of the connections, we might see some kind of issue with the way it’s connected.

There’s only so much that can be communicated by typed words on a web page.

If you're getting the "exclamation mark" error light it could be that the battery has a fault and will not accept charge.

Hi guys. All sorted. I was in the middle of connecting up and I received orders from her indoors that dinner is ready!! So I went into rush mode and I had only loosely connected the positive so it showed an error code ( red light) so now reconnected a. All systems are GO .
Thanks again for all your help and support. Regards Dave.
