Hi I have just got a nice cherised plate I was wondering what your opinions are on changing the font slightly etc obviously for show purposes! Lol or do you feel this looks cheap thx

There have been a few posts recently about the spacing of characters on number plates, as far as I know it's still illegal at present to incorrectly space your characters on the plate, as far as I'm aware it's all to do with ANPR and its ability to read the plate correctly.

Some posts I've seen recently, suggest that DVLA will be relaxing these rules - possibly as ANPR gets cleverer at reading plates.

As for it looking cheap, in my opinion some plates look better correctly spaced, some look better without, it’s really up to you, do it and see what you think.

Personal taste, but I always think irregular fonts have whiff of Halfords about them, and especially on a nice car can look a bit 'new money'

Yeah for the love of God please don't space the letters differently... apparently you could prevent crime of the century being solved ;)

It all depends what the plate is.
If it's s**t and needs special font or need to incorrectly space it to make it look like what you think it'll look cheap and naff.
If you can keep it spaced correctly a 3d legal font or carbon legal font with a nice outline will make all the difference. I always have a nice legal plate on.

Change the font. Something like a script font will add class and prestige to your Mercedes.

You could use a 3D font. Perfectly legal and look better imo

Italics with a background of mercedes star shadows with a mercedes badge in place of the gb badge on the side is the way to go I reckon.

If you can fit some Swarovski crystals on it somewhere , all the better :thumb:

Don't forget that "non-standard" spacing is particularly effective too:thumb:

Look, this guy has already stated it's only for use at shows, so what's the problem?

There are many shows up and down the country where perfectly nice cars are driven there using road-legal plates and then - only once at the show ground - the correct plate is removed and replaced by a ridiculous and naff facsimile using a tacky font and dubious spacing to indicate clearly to all concerned that this is the 87th car in their fleet and that at least one of their forenames does indeed start with an "X".
