What with Maff having his new car and the C32 currently in classifides thought I would get a few quotes

My current C43 Just shy of a Grand

Maffs Car £1375 1k Compulsory Excess  0 Voluntary Excess (The only bit of the running of the car I could afford lol)

C32AMG £838.95 £500 Compulsory Excess.

C55 £1075 £750 Excess :D best get saving

Madness Newer quicker more expensive car. Cheaper to insure.

*EDIT*

The C43 is what I am currently paying now to make the Test fair got quoted by tescos £1075

these all from the same insurer?

Yep all from Tesco Just me as driver 10000 Miles annual

About the only cars I had to phone them on was a Lamborghini.

TVR Griffith 500 £1075 - I feel a change of car needed :D

Porsche 911 Turbo £1275

1989 Sierra RS Cosworth £995

Most cars picked were between 2000 - 2004 for age.

lol I dont think they would appreciate me wasting their time. This was purely an interest exercise.

Just with SportscoupeRich saying he would have a 32 if he could get insured.

To see 1 What I could get insured on and how much the prices varied. By time I come to re new in march I will be 25 so will be interesting to see how much it brings the price down.

Thought I would get a quote or two myself. :D

C32 £638.40 with £250 comp and £200 voluntary excess.

CL65 £898.80 with £500 comp and £200

And seeing as I used to own one,

1988 Ford Sierra RS Cosworth 3 door £729.75 £250 and £200.
That's about half what I was paying all those years ago.

And the CL and Cossie both require a tracker to be fitted.
All quotes from Tesco to compare to Thmsshaun.

Here is what I got;

CL65 with £200 excess £531.30
CL55 with £200 excess £531.30
C55 with £200 excess £474.60
C32 with £200 excess £394.80

Just for fun I tried a Daewoo Matiz 800cc which came in at £166.95
Makes the above look like very good value or the Daewoo a rip off!

Interestingly all cars require a tracker including the Daewoo!

Direct Line.

Tesco I think must be underwritten by directline as their questions are identical in style, format etc. Interestingly their quotes mirrored those of Directline in structure if not price;

CL65 & CL55 £200 excess £673.10
C32 £508
C55 £615

Daewoo £222

Tracker required on all!

I am destined never to own a Daewoo clearly!

I used exactly the same criteria for both directline and Tesco. Directline come out significantly cheaper than Tesco!

I was talking to someone who is a sales rep for Tracker who I know.

Even he agreed that Tracker devise is usless. There are a maximum of 28 locations that the module is fixed within a car and if you know the basics on how to strip cars (which you do not have to be a genious to do) then it is impossible to "miss".

He did say that it is very unlikely that unit is installed anywhere within the boot/trunk area of the car. If car is stolen and is stored in an underground car park then the devise is useless as signals cannot be activated. Royal Bank of Scotland have now bought Tracker and have tehir own insurance company (they are just monopolising by artifically inflating the premiums and then requetsing that Tracker is installed to give a discount on the premium...)

According to the guy there are 5/7 main hot spots that Dealers install the devise and most likely area is beind the dash board/glove box area.... he did go on to say alot more... ;)

Organised gangs will strip the cars and locate the tracker box within 2hrs of the cars beign stolen or work at their leisurely pace with an underground car park/storage facility where signal si not detected. It takes about 2hrs to get the ball rolling at least when car is reported stolen and info is relayed back and forth to the Police etc. anyway...

What a thoroughly unprofessional salesman he is!

Tracker monitor is activated as soon as the car is stolen and uses radio signals aswell as GPS. Were his comments related to all versions of Tracker?

I must be bored :D

As a basis of value for money against value of car Maff has the best value @ £13.88 per 1k of the cars value.

Second place came the C32 £38.13 Per 1k

My car was 3rd @ £104.37 Per 1k

The Cossie by far the worst at £221.11 per 1K.

So on this basis if you want value for money car insurance the more expensive and stupidly fast the car the better the value car insurance. :D

This also works out to be True for Alfie

with the Daewoo being the most expensive

Try Elephant.co.uk for online quotes, £300 cheaper than Direct Line for me (and with a much lower excess too - D L insisted on £750 because my R129 has 17" M-B wheels in place of the original 16" ones!).

My old vauxhall astra was £4750 per £1k then!

The value of the vehicle plays only a small part in the total insurance premium.

I did not ask what version of Tracker - PM me any questions you have and I will ask him for you. He did say to me not to bother with it and I have never been to keen on Tracker anyway. The devise itself is a black box and is not compact so is impossible to miss when stripping the vehilce. Majority of stolen cars are stripped for parts anyway apart from those stolen to order.

Its all a scam - some insurance companies that insist on you having Tracker installed have an arranegment with Tracker on which they get commission if they get they get customer to subscribe to Tracker... The insurance company will say ie.. u must have Tracket installed blah blah BUT if u go to our approved Dealer u will get an £xxx amount discount...

Alright, this is beginning to really annoy me!

I'm 36. I'm a nice chap. I keep my car on the driveway. My wife is older than me, and some would say, even nicer.

Why can I not get my '94 E320 Coupe insured ANYWHERE for less than £500? (Worst quote I had was £1,450!). Does this seem reasonable? What am I doing wrong? The classic car insurers I've used in the past aren't interested, because it's less than 15 years old.

Insured value £10,000
Est annnual mileage 12,000
no claims, no convictions, full NCB, licence held umpteen years.

It must be your postcode!

Perhaps it is considered a high risk area. Try doing the exact same quote but put in KT15 3LP (not mine but close to here) and see what you get!

Well stone me!

With Tesco's, (who I'm not with, as they are not the cheapest) the quote for my house is £517.50. The quote for KT15 is £426.30.

That's a bit of a relief Alfie, thanks. I was beginning to think I was being ripped off. Now I know it's just that I have scrotes for neighbours ;) )
