Damage To My Car When In Care Of Garage (disuputing)

the art is to leave open the door you want him to go thru.

We soooooo talk from the same hymn sheet. Silversaloon can easily come out of this far better off than when he went to collect the car.

The game is not over 'til the final whistle blows ;)

i'll see what he says....

i'll get an idea of what he wants as a contribution from me for the door & then ask how much would the lot be if i get the other bits done at the same time....

i am very tempted to ask how much he would fix the wing mirror, scrape on bumper & skirt at the same time....

Yeah, but just think how many extra scrapes it would come back with ...

SilverSaloon still might have to hire me to make this gentleman understand the very grave error of his ways ;) :) Toffee crisps at forty paces.

toffee crisps! my word.

i tend to find the 'topic' a bit hard to digest, on my own, in circumstances like this. The odd 'double decker' coming along in 2's is preferable. Mind you, I had to stop doing 'Marathons' when they changed into 'sneakers'.

And exactly what Bars do they put in 'Mars'?

its a sweet thread is this one.;)

heh true, i was going to spray the mirror myself actually in summer, so probably will just get them to do the door and thats it

A mutual repair is where you offer to pay for the paint and he does the Labor for free..

Id accept that just to get the chip fixed. Plus a courtesy car.

Im sure the dude that owns the company , Mr Watt would be interested to hear about this ....

i went there saturday; spoke to the manager and we agreed i'd pay £40 and that will fix the chip.

he also said that they would respray my wing mirror at the same time FOC...

seems fair enough.....

so you both got something, and both are happy! good.

pity it happened in the first place really. still, never mind.

The bottom line here is that your happy, the workshop is happy, your not out of pocket (the wing mirror would have cost at least £40).

There will always be a place for letters, solicitors, court action etc. but it must be the last resort, it will cost time, money, frustration and sadly anger.

The friendly approach should ALWAYS be the first option,

Congratulations and thanks for the up dates.

John

Very good. A happy ending to a very frustrateing story.

Agree with you 100%, John.

If only everyone thought this way these days ...

Manager just called me...

My car is booked into the garage next week for:

chip on door repaired (£40)
wing mirror resprayed - FOC
scuff on rear bumper fixed - FOC

Its nice to see the garage, even though didnt admit fault, aim for high customer satisfaction. I would certainly recommend them.

But I will deffinatly make sure that when they do their car-check i will be there to agree the current state of the car...

UPDATE: car all fixed now, and a good job done :)

Excellent news, no rants, no moans.

Well done for keeping your cool,

Regards,
John

Great news. Happy to hear a good result;)

It seems it's not the first time this sort of thing has happened....

Taken from Audisport.net....

None of you are going to believe this story. I had a crash early December, idiot hit me from behind going 40 while I was stationary at a light. It took 2 months for his insurance company to claim liability so that I could finally get my car repaired. I then took it to my Audi dealership to get it repaired.

After 4 weeks they still hadn't booked me in (I didn't go to another dealership because the insurance already had their details and I couldn't be bothered to explain the situation again the ins. company). I was leaving on holiday for 2 weeks so told the bodyshop that if they don't book me in before I leave I would go to another dealership. The estimator told me to bring my car round to the dealership leave it with them while I was gone. He would book it in while I was away and I would get it back when I returned. Obviously, I returned after 2 weeks and the car was still not fixed (took them another week).

When I finally went to pick up my car, to my horror, the near side front bumper and wheel arch was damaged (the rear damage was fixed of course). I went nuts and tried to explain to the bloke showing me the car that this damage was new. He told me that that was impossible and went into the dealership to bring out some orange card where they marked the condition of my car "when I brought it in" specifically stating that my car was damaged on the near-side front bumper. Total .

I demanded to speak to a customer services manager who came round to have a look and explained to me that the orange cards are filled in before the car is taken to the body shop (12 miles away) and that the damage must have been there when the car was brought in. She then invented some story that the estimator even gave me a price to fix that specific damage. I explained that the car was in their posession for some 4-5 days before it went off to the body shop, plenty of time for some guy to hit the front of my car into a wall while moving it (the parking in the dealership is very tight). She answered to this that because the far-side bumper was scratched (a very minor parking incident) and the rear damaged (due to the accident) it was highly likely that I was a bad driver and had caused the damage without realising it !!! When I asked to speak to the estimator that had filled out the orange card (that had no date or signature on it, not mine nor the estimator's), they told me that he had been fired and they now had a new estimator.

The new estimator came round and said that due to there being a dispute, he would fix all the damage (near and far side front bumper) for the small price of 500 quid (paint and labour, ex part and VAT). I refused and said that I didn't deserve to pay for damage that I didn't cause and expected them to fix it free of charge (they had just done 3k worth of insurance work to the rear for god's sake). The service manager then said that she refused to take responsibility for the damage and she see's the matter closed.

Now I'm left with 6-700 quid damage to the front of my car that the damn Audi dealership did and no idea of how to get them to pay for it (short of taking them to small claims court).

Has anybody here ever been in such a situation? I was in total shock of the way they treated me during the whole incident. They made me feel like a criminal trying to scam them, not what I'd expect from an Audi customer services manager. I showed the damage to a mate the next day and he says that he will be a witness that the damage was not there when I brought the car in (he saw the car the night before i took it to the dealership). But, I have no idea if this means anything at all and if I have any chance of winning if I take them to court (they do have that orange card that shows the damage on it).

If anybody has any idea what to do in such a situation then please help me out.

.

sounds familiar ;)

i was lucky and the damage was so small it was probably worth the manager to fix it 50/50 & fit a few other bits and bobs FOC at the same time....

i suppose if it was £500 worth of damage he would just refuse outright.

scary stuff!
