Dear all

My 1997 sl320 has been off the road for some months while I tried to find a buyer, with no luck. Unfortunately the car has not been driven or even started during this time. Today I got it mot which
it passed first time though to get it there I had to jump start it to get to garage for petrol then again to get it to mot.

The third time we had to jump it today there was a clicking in the engine bay but it wouldn't turn over, my wife jiggled the neutral jump cable and it started.

Problem is that after the third jump which was totally unavoidable, the roof switch is lit up permanently, there's a warning light on dash for roll bar and non flashing lights on roll bar switch, windows don't work, including when opening door the slight drop, aircon doesn't work.

Can't do the window reset as the windows don't work, any ideas??

Car was working like a dream all day right up until the third an final jump, just as we were about to trade it in!!!!

Any help very very gratefully received as I do need to trade my R129 in for a family car this week :(

Why on earth did you not replace the Battery at the first sign of failure ?

MB electronics are renowned for being sensitive to the correct voltage.

Jump starting constantly is always going to lead to problems and even after all this you still don't seem to have put in a new battery??? :wallbash:

You may just have a dead/dying battery.

Disconnect the battery from the car then charge it fully. Then put a meter across the battery terminals. You should be looking at +12v. With the car running you should see +14v.

My guess is that you have killed the battery. With very low voltage the car will light up strange things. Leaving the car standing for months with the battery connected and no charge will most likely kill the battery.

99.9% sure you'll have error codes logged for the windows and/or roof that will need to be cleared via STAR.

I had exactly the same with my SL (also a 1997) after it just started, with a very low battery. After getting a new battery I tried everything to clear the error lights e.g. removing & replacing fuses, disconnecting battery overnight, etc. but it took STAR in the end.

After that I also got a maintenance charger, which the car is hooked up to whenever it's parked. The 'new' battery is 7 years old now and still fine.

Dear all

Good news, went down to the car the following day and it started first time an without all the warning lights.

Looks like I got away with the jumping and will defo not try that on my other one. Now to part exchange this one.
