Anybody know what this might cost from the dealer? I opened my van door and it put chip in the paintwork on the rear quarter. The guy only wants to go to merc. I'm worried they wanna paint the whole panel!

He will possibly have warranty. That means to protect it he must go Merc.

Sad but true. To comply with the bodywork guarantee it must be repaired by MB themselves or one of their approved repairers.

When I went to MB to have them look at a tiny scab (less than a 5p coin size), not only did they turn me down for a warranty repair but provided me with a quote for £800+vat

Thats crazy! Its only a stone chip look a like! Dont they do smart repairs?

somebody put a small dent and chipped the paint in the nearside rear quarter panel on my coupé the whole panel was repaired and painted he had to pay £660+vat. there's too many who just open their doors in car parks and bang it against the car next to them and just drive off, leaving the owner to foot the bill.

At least you were honest enough to admit to the deed.

It is almost a new car, possibly leased and if so with penalties to the driver if returned with poor paintwork repairs.

Put yourself in the place of the other driver, what would you want done?

A few hours labour, materials, VAT and you can see how it adds up.

If someone chipped my vehicle I wouldn't accept a smart repair. Smart repairs are always poor quality as within 18 months the line you were trying to lose will always re appear. Even if you lost it on a swage line. For us to repair and paint the whole rear quarter would be £400+ VAT. Or the cheaper alternative would be to repair the area locally but re lacquer the entire rear quarter so no lacquer blow lines re spear in the not so distance future. Don't get me wrong we are definitely at the higher end of prices but the quality speaks for itself as quite a few members have had paint completed by my team.

What would be a guideline price for a rear arch rust repair Mike - would the whole panel need to be painted and blended into the other panels? How much work is typically involved as a quick repair would only allow it to come back would it not?
