A **** heap
Well the problem i have is that the mini 10v boots upto the desktop screen but with no icons or taskbar is displayed :( - the mouse cursor is there but nothing else!

can anyone advise what i could do? or why the mini 10v is doing this?

Try switching on and keep hitting F8 then boot up in safe mode. Run System Restore, choosing a date from before this started happening.

If under guarantee ring up Dell, it free. :D

if not try the diagnostic F12, it all in the manual that came with it. I believe it hasn't even got a CD ROM drive, you have to buy an external.

It an Inspiron 1110 depending whether you got Ubuntu or Vista.

tried this but now only boots to the welcome screen and stays there :(
maybe a call to dell is in order (well just tried to call dell but its out of warranty!!)

Had you just updated the BIOS?

Are there any error beeps during booting?

nope none, and no updates have been done. Had done nothing different.

(this is my daughters netbook and she said the battery had run out and the netbook just shutdown) and this is the point from where the problem has started :(

should i just take it back to when i bought it? its driving me nutz now lol + getting nagged for it :S

Try an earlier restore point.

Unfortunately the netbooks dont have a recovery partition so if it doesnt work you will need to reinstall. You can use a non dell VISTA disc that is the same version as what the netbook came with and use the key on the sticker on the netbook. You will need to get any required drivers from dell's site. Or you can request the dell restore and driver discs from dell or get them on ebay. You can also copy them on to bootable USB drive so you dont need an external cdrom to reinstall.

Seems some do have a restore partition so you may not need the cd. If it does the way to restore back to factory is:
"when you boot the Mini and you see "www.dell.com" at the top of the screen, press ctrl+F11. You should then be asked whether you want to re-install to factory state - just follow the prompts."

I think all personal data will be lost during this operation. It's better than having a laptop as a book-end, but just warning the OP in case he wasn't aware.

thanks guys for all the help - ended up doing a system restore back to 28th Feb 2010!!!!
all seems to work fine now - daughters happy again!

You can now save today as a new restore point, so should this happen again you wont have to go back so far.

Glad to hear it's all OK now.

Turn off automatic update, let it asks you before proceeding update.
