had my w211 a few weeks now, lovely motor. first diesel ive ever had. now my query is when i accelarate seems rattly and noisy going along realy smooth, is this just me expecting too much from a diesel ? been reading about additives, millers ecomax. wynns gold.redex etc. are these any good? as in smoother engine less rattly more mpg or is it all hype ? and why dont garages supply disposable gloves when your filling up i didnt realise how much diesel smells when you get it on your hands from the pump.

Most garages do supply disposable gloves, but they only come with four fingers and one thumb.

Millers all the way.

^ +1 My engine has just had the head off and its always been run on Millers the head was clean as a whistle so I'm a believer

My diesels use Millers. Wouldn't be without it.

thats the one for me then, get down to halfords and get a bottle. got to be worth a try.

If you find you like the Millers you can buy it in bulk from our man Johnsco. A lot cheaper than a single bottle from Halfords and you may well end up attending a curry night to collect it. ;)

Edit: Bit of a trek from Great Yarmouth to Yorkshire.

I used to occasionally use an Iveco with a 2.8 Sofim engine. As the engine was half in the cab it was a noisy affair...until...I filled with diesel and a dose of Millers.

After 2 miles it suddenly went much quieter.

If Jonsco can get me some more and Terry likes his trial batch, I can get 5L over to Yarmoof for him.

some say put mineral based 2 stroke oil in every tank at 250:1 they say it reaches and lubricates the parts that others cannot reach and cuts down on noise - some pooh pooh the idea others swear by it

I can get the stuff to you if you want and if that helps doing Leicester University regular at the moment

Also the new Breakfast/lunch/Christmas run I'm planning will hopefully be passing by you :thumb:

Quietened my Sprinter down and gave it a little extra kick too. Never noticed to extra oomph on the 320CDI though. They both burned clean though.

Worth posting again the emissions from my last MOT on the 2008 Vito, 77k miles.
