diesel additive

Not knocking Millers, however, Redex did a good job for me and I understand that Forte also comes highly recommend.

Going against the grain perhaps... but after using STP and Redex for many years (on petrol engines), I have moved to Shell V-Power for both my petrol and my diesel cars based on the premise that these will have all the additive required, in the correct quantities, without the hassle of having to pour it in myself.

(and before anyone starts - I have no idea if premium fuels improve bhp or mpg - and even if they did, I wouldn't notice)

some say put mineral based 2 stroke oil in every tank at 250:1 they say it reaches and lubricates the parts that others cannot reach and cuts down on noise - some pooh pooh the idea others swear by it

Ive got a Renault Kangoo Van with the 1.5DCi engine which is lovely and smooth but can suffer from a bit of injector rattle on a light throttle. I've started putting a bit of 2 stroke oil in the fuel and hey presto, the injector rattle is a thing of the past.

Interesting discussion re additives. Would their be any benefit from adding it to a new diesel car? ...specifically to reduce diesel tapping?

would it invalidate warranty

I add Millers to both our cars and have done since new without a problem, If you don't tell the dealer no one will ever know you have used an additive so shouldn't be an issue, but it does say in some manufacturers handbooks not to use additives. If this is an issue for you just use Shell V power or BP Ultimate diesel as the additive package is very similar and will certainly lead to a quieter and smoother engine in my experience.

Well after reading all this I purchased a bottle of Millers additive from the Bay! After running for a month now I have noticed a slight increase in economy on my daily run to and from work, used to average around 38 41 now get minumum 39 and a few times have managed to get 42+ out of it. Smoother acceleration, doesn't seem as noisy as well. So will be ordering an other bottle now and keep on using it. :)

well had millers in my tank for the last few weeks, yes definately made a difference to the engine, rattles gone, pulls better fuel economy dont realy know, but realy pleased so far. thanks for all the advice from everyone especially dieselman although he's sarky. (get use to it eventually i spose). glad i joined this forum now. very helpful people very freindly. now the crunch sorted out me fuel now whats the best oil for w211 280 cdi. keep looking at mobil ? is it realy the best or just mercedes hype ?

Iv just started using that Millers stuff for a week now and yes iv noticed a difference on my OM642 engine, much quieter and more power

I have an account with Millers and can obtain their products at advantageous prices for Forum members.
PM me if interested.
I work on a cash-and-collect basis (Barnsley or Bradford).
I can bring to curry nights, etc.
There's no point in sending by carrier.
Any price advantage is wiped out.

Any chemists here?

What is in Millers or Redex diesel treatment? I mean what's the active / secret ingredient?

If you take away the branding & you can probably buy litres of the stuff for a fraction of the price.

If I told you I'd have to kill you :D but HERE is the MSDS

I bought some Millers and am using it. Anyone explain how the measuring bottle works??

I have just been guessing the amount, when I pour from the bottle it does not come from the measured section....???

You have to twist the black bit to fill the measuring section by squeezing the bottle then when the section is full twist the black bit again (so the whole contents dont empty into your tank :D then you can add whats in the measured section of the bottle to your tank.

Hope that makes sense but I know what I mean :D I did away with the silly bottles bought in bulk from Johnsco and now have measured ammounts in small bottles which I keep in a special container in the boot.

iirc, the new bottles have two caps. Unscrew the one for the measure, squeeze the bottle then pour.
