I'm a poet and I know it!!

Ok, I have bought this:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4601712621&ssPageName=ADME:B:EOIBSA:UK:31

and this:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4602837505&ssPageName=ADME:B:EOIBSA:UK:31

I have a comand 2.0 and my question is....

1) have i bought the right things to enable tv in my w203

2) do I need anything else?

3) have I forgotten about anything ? (tv is enabled? I was told my Mbenznl)

4) am i a plonker who has bought the wrong things and will have to sell them again ?

5) is it a good price (I thought it was...)

Many thanks in advance :o

If it works for that price then I'm interested...

The TV tuner that you bought, does it come with a remote control?

It looks like an aftermarket TV tuner (is it?)

If so I believe that you wouldn't be able to control your choice of channel through the COMAND sustem or via your multi-function steering wheel. To have it fully integrated you would need the MB tuner, these still go for big bucks even on ebay.

Keep us posted...

yep - it is an aftermarket one.. it does have a remote control..

Will let youknow if it works

:) LOL - Although looking at the ebay advert it looks as though it has an option for English menu selection.

The TV tuners do work. Although you can not really expect to get a picture whilst you are on the move unless you are in an area with exceptional signal. I have this for my car but purchased an aftermarket powered areial from argos.

You have various menus to choose your language. But if anyone wants one PLEASE PLEASE contact me I should be able to sort them out for about £60 delivered but would confirm that if anyone is interested.

Hi T,

that looks like exactly the model I have got...

Did you just use a multimedia adapter to connect to your comand? Also, where have you fitted it and the ariel please?

Thanks
Stve

Tried to give you rep, but i need to spread it around again!!

Ich kann die deutsch aber so gut zu sprechen! :o (think thats a bit wrong! Achtung!)

:p

LOL about the rep :D

I have a Pioneer DVD head unit so I connected it through the AUX in for AV. I cant help you with the command I am afraid.

It is located here its the black box to the left of the pic. The other unit is the Hide away control box for the headunit.

Not sure if this space behind the back seat is there on the 203 though.

I then used a aerial extender cable which just pokes through the side panel so I can connect the aerial as and when required.

thanks for that. so the aerial extender cable connects to your aeriel main cable - but where do you attach your aerial to please? to the outside of your car or somewhere inside?
The problem is that I don't want anything to be on the outside of the car if i can help it.
Btw - what aerial did you buy please as I can't see any on the argos site (will look again though)

Thanks again - you are a star! :bannana:

oh, and where did you put the dvb-t unit so that you could change channels?

(First time I have tried this - sorry for asking so many questions!)

Thats ok dont worry about the questions.

You get a remote extender cable. That black box is the dvb unit.

The remote extender is fed through the car and I have located the remote eye here.

The areial socket is on the left side of the boot and pokes out here or i can push it through into the first aid compartment on my car.

This is the areial from argos

http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/5344211.htm

Its really an indoor one and not what you are after but it does the job and I get every channel anywhere I have tested so far. The only real reason I will be using it is for shows in the summer when I am camping for the music channels etc. So I will always be static.

The aerial you get with it is for external use and has a magnetic base.

I am still looking for a suitable effective internal aerial that you can for example locate on the rear window. The thing you need to remeber is its digital TV and most people need a big aerial on top of a house. Here you get a little aerial low down on a car roof. It doesnt do miracles.

When I first tuned it in a connected it to a 12volt power source in the house to my home aerial and tv set. This way I could ensure all channels were tuned and that it did woek.

Anything else you want to know ask away.

If you had bought the DVB-T from Steve the controls would have worked from the steering wheel.

didn't know he sold them! Probably too expensive for me - I didn't want to pay more than 200gbp all in..
:o

I think the trick is figuring a way around the aerial dilema - I would like something which I can keep mounted inside and get a good (ish) picture when stopped. ( I shan't be watching on the move at all)

Steve
Thanks for both your help.

I think you get what you pay for. At the very least I would have started with a factory replacement antenna with TV tuner output and a tuner with diversity switch internally. That way it will actually work on different antennas according to the field strength of the best signal.

Then I would have installed the TV tuner bracket and trunk liner replacement so it was hidden away on its own OEM location. You could go one step more pedantic and install the OEM Tuner wiring harness too.

I have bought this aerial :

http://www.dixons.co.uk/martprd/sto...null&sm=null&tm=null&sku=771356&category_oid=

as the 'racetrack' shaped aerial can pe put the other way (eg not as high) and also it will fit very nice on the real shelf and is small than the rear headrests..

Will post photos when I have it up and running..

Ah! Do you have a photo or can you tell me how you have connected the DVB-t to the power (via fusebox?)

Thanks

As do Mercedes.

Thanks

I have wired mine up using the hard wired method as it can also be powered from the 12volt adaptor supplied. I got a 2 amp fuse as there is not one supplied on the connector for hard wiring. The negative goes to the chassis and then it gets the positive feed from the remote off one of my amps. So cant really advise what would be best in your case.

Let me know how you get on with that aerial though.

Que ?

Are you saying the W203 TV antenna goes into the bumper ? Apparently not.

There is substantial documentation regarding the rear windscreen.
