My CL500 has the amplifier ready for a TV Tuner. Before I lash out on this I wondered if there is a digital tuner available? The thought has just struck me that I could get the tuner installed, we go digital in the UK and I won't be able to tune in to anything. Is this why so many tuners keep appearing on ebay?

I looked into this some time ago, and at the time there were two options:

(1) OEM MB Analogue tuner
(2) Aftermarket Digital tuner with some kind of multimedia interface

Both options seemed expensive at the time and I decided it wasn't worth it, and bought a Casio LCD pocket TV instead for £29!! Bargain - and that was from Selfridges!! Barely used that though - I don't mind for £29, but £1000+!!??

There is a retro at £635 that though goes through the old tuner, cars with the DVD plug in option can do away with their old tuner

I have the same problem as you,in that I never use it, but as I can do it I will.
My car was harder due to a fault in that my command will not talk to STAR to activate the Aux input on the tuner, and there are 2 Aux inputs, so you can play a DVD as well if you wish.

I will be done when it stops raining and I will put up pics and a full report.

I would not spend £100 on this job, I do it as I get the things free

Does this mean that I can buy the B 782 aerial connectors on their own.

When I tried last week they said that they only come with the kits, so I said that mine was faulty, they rang Germany and that drew a blank

thank you for this info

That's certainly my interpretation of things. These parts guys are not always very helpful. But if you can give them a part number, perhaps that will bootstrap things.

as long as you have an aux input, I would assume any AV source inc an aftermarket DVT tuner could be plugged in. its all contriolled via remote so shouldnt be a problem. aftermarket car DVT tuners are around £50 on fleabay. They work well with my Alpine setup .

I was hoping for control via COMAND, which is why I was looking for an MB one. However I am considering installing either the Dension Gateway 500 or the Alpine Vehicle Hub Pro, both of which feature auxiliary inputs.

The main thing is to be sure that your Command does feature a video input on the Aux or that you get the TV turned on, even if you have not got one

All video outputs are 1v peak to peak so the video out from any scart will match

I wouldn't expect DVB-T to work too well on the move - not at any speed, at least. Some of the latest DVB-T stuff may be ok, but I'd be sure to ask the seller what speeds it'll work up to - make sure you know what you're buying.
Of course, no-one would actually be trying to watch TV on the move, right.....?

To try and watch on the move is suicide, just reversing up my drive years ago trying to pick up a signal cost me a new rear tyre.

I have no idea what Corry is. As you can probably tell from this, I don't watch television much. In fact I'm only considering this so the 'TV' button on my COMAND isn't dead. If I could adapt it to fire up Internet Explorer or Firefox that would be way cool.

Corry = Coronation street

Using a line scan converter you could have PC on the screen

I have 2 blank buttons around the gear shift on mine and I hate that, 1 was for the AUX heater, any idea's as I hate blanks too

I have a question along similar lines. In that my car has a tv tuner fitted, can this be replaced by a dtv tuner? or do I have to have both? If it can just be replaced is this an easy job and what sort of costs are involved?

Many thanks for your help

Steve
