Disconnecting car battery W205 C Class ?

I'm nervously attempting to replace my front grille with a diamond replacement and have been looking at the battery terminal for about an hour [emoji27]

The instructions for removing the front bumper starts with disconnecting the battery ... if I do this will I loose radio codes, or need some special dealer software to reprogram something ?

I was hoping by disconnecting it, the worst I could loose is some radio stations, but some posts have talked about ESP issues, windows not knowing if they are up or down [emoji43]

Before I get the courage to have a go, anyone got some great words of wisdom ?

I doubt there is a radio code - these days the radios are coded to the car so it should not stop it working. I'd wait for a definitive answer but the handbook may confirm this.

The ESP/BAS and window issues on earlier cars required the steering to be turned from lock to lock so it knows the centre, the lights would then go out. The windows also just needed to be wound down keeping the button pressed and then back up in the same way so the one touch worked.

Again i cannot comment if this is all applicable on the W205 but it should be the same

Checked the handbook many times now and no mention of disconnecting the battery unfortunately.
With the Bank holiday I've got 4 days of nervously considering having a go
I'll call the dealer tomorrow and ask if someone in service can confirm what happens with the battery off. Until then I leave all the clips and rivets out and come in from the cold !
Thanks bob, I'll take five and hope for some more advise, but thanks for the reply much appreciated.

This is because batteries these days are hidden under various coverings and are no longer deemed user-serviceable items.

All the manual provides these days is the location of the charging points in the engine bay (which are not on the battery itself).

Battery disconnect instructions are now provided on WIS... not owners manual.

Said that, to be honest I don't think much has changed and personally I would just disconnect it then reset the windows etc.

You can also use a battery operated memory keeper plugged into the cigarette lighter socket.

won't it have two batteries anyway for the stop start function ?, one in the boot one under the bonnet

The WIS for removing the front bumper says to disconnect the battery ... I'm assuming this is to protect from accidental triggering of the pedestrian protection sensor. It might all be complete nonsense, and I can remove the bumper and disconnect the parking sensor and pedestrian protection sensor electrical connections with no effect.
Bypassing the battery may still allow the system to be live.
I was hoping someone may have removed their battery for a reason or disconnected it for a reason and had some experience of what happened when it's reconnected?

If you have the WIS instructions, then on reassembly, it would say if you needed to re-calibrate or reprogram anything. If it's not mentioned then it should be fine.

I don't have the WIS, I've only been using the PDF found on a post from a previous member who fitted the new grille. I assumed it was a WIS as it has some photos with a few notes but no more than just "remove this and remove that"
I'll call the dealer tomorrow and see what the process is for disconnect and reconnect.

I have just checked WIS and all it says is check time display after re-connecting

hello, can you confirm that I can disconnect and reconnect a new battery (to replace the old one) without any problem ? Or it should be done by dealer only ? Thank you.
