DMS Automotive - C230K Chipping

I couldn't bring myself to have the remap reverted.

The car although obviously no gain in peak BHP does have an extra spring to it's step, I'm sure that extra fuelling will be of use on the autobahn and most of all I love the fact the harsh rev limiter doesn't slam in at 5900 any more.

Needless to say I came to an agreement with DMS after one more call.

Well done Graham. Glad you are happy. Driveablitily isn't to be dismissed , it makes a BIG difference!!

You are feeling the extra torque across the rev range. As you have said, it's only 10Ft Lbs but its across a wide rev band so better accelleration and driveability.

They probably didn't expect you to have before and after RR reports so wouldn't normally be caught out. :D

Without more air you cant add more power to a petrol engine so a chip will never work.

I hope you dont mind me resurrecting an old(ish) post - but i am toying with the idea of superchipping my car.

It's a c180K -w203 (04 prefacelift).

I have been told by the company that a 40bhp increase can be achieved by ecu chipping and will cost £987 fitted etc...

What do you think? It would then be a little nippier than a c200 which has 163 bhp.

The c180k has 143 as default so would increase to 183 bhp approx.

Would the engine be able to handle it?
I would have thought that it could due to the same engine being present in the c180 and c200 and c230 (although a different pulley setup in the c230)?

Opinions welcomed and appreciated.

Steve
:D

The company are reliable - agree a not happy, get a refund or pay later deal with them and make sure you can feel the difference - 40BHP you should know if it's there or not. They will talk you out of dyno testing - but you could always pay for a before and after I am sure.

I have spoken to Torquing BHP this morning and they sound good. They want to run some checks on my car and check the map. They beileve there is either a fault which if resolved will make my current map come into it's own, or if there is no fault they can map it to easily put an instant smile on my face. Due to the diags, they would prefer me to go to them though...mmmm trip to Cambridge....

Graham see my other post about organising a GTG whereby they will travel and negotiate a discount.

Yes. I have prices for a vist and to go to them. Their background is diagnostics and he can't believe my DMS remap had 0 results - hence suspects and electrical sensor issue or an air leak - so would prefer my car on a ramp initially.

Thanks for the tip off. It's do I or don't I time.......

Do they have a ramp

AFAIK their sensor testing is all done via software.

If you remember I had problems at Bruntingthorpe, after an hour or so of thrashing around the track in my C250 I lost 'all' power briefly and it went into limp mode. I stopped, restarted and it was running better but not right. That explains why I could only get to about 120mph down the straight, I did blame poor front aerodynamics at the time!!

Anyway, I checked everything, the turbo, vacuum hoses, intercooler pipes and could see noyhing wrong. Had the fault codes read at an independent and there was a manifold pressure sensor fault. Replaced the sensor and the car was transformed again.

If you have a boost pipe air leak you would hear it whooshing. If your MAS/MAF sensor was faulty you would certainly notice that. Not sure what other sensors the C230K has, but worth getting the fault codes read.

This thread is making very interesting reading. I'd like a bit more poke from my CLK230 and another 25-40 bhp would do the job nicely.

Torquing BHP say they would be dissapointed if i did not see a 15-20BHP increase. They havedone SLK and CLK's (same engine) and the owners are delighted.

I am torn. I am thinking about getting Torquing BHP to check my car out for sure - trouble is - if another remap is the recommendation - I won't be able to resist, but at elast i will know the car checks out OK and I don't have to keep this re-remap if I am not happy.

Graham can they check out your car using their mobile service? If so then it makes sense to do it at a GTG whereby you could opt in for a discounted remap?

They can - but they say it would be easier to check the car from underneath - I guess they are talking about checking pipes/intercooler and stuff too.

Is there a planned GTG - tell me more!! :D

Best start a new thread eh! How many do you think we would need. Count me in.

Stats i would like to find out how they could improve the C43, i would be up for a GTG.
