1. Do they work (reliably)?
2. Why the big difference in price (seem to be between £90-£400)
3. Are the really plug and play as thdo they casue ey say?
4. is there any that is particularly recommended for a 320 cdi engine (204hp variant)
5. Do they cause the 5g gearbox any problems??

cheers

1 yes very well
2 Depends if they are full digital signal or not (just the way they work)
3 Yes unplug, plug in, pick your setting the drive down the road
4 No idea
5 No idea Dont see why they would apart from the normal extra load on the box.

Not a tuning box Matt, but the latter posts of this thread may be of interest to you. Peter DLM's E Class is an IL6 204.

An alternative for you to consider.

I might have missed the photos of your 730bhp R32 - can you post some more please? :thumb:

Automatic transmissions can get killed-off by high-torque engines. If the tuning box increases the torque, you would want to check the torque figures to ensure that they are within the transmission operating range. But a reputable installer should provide the right box for the car.

Also, you will need to notify your insurer. Typically they will increase the premium based on how much extra bhp the engine produces with the tuning box installed, but they won't be too bothered with torque figures. So from the insurance cost point of view you would do well with a box that improves torque (within the transmissions' specifications) and mpg but not bhp.
