The Honda rider was traveling at approximately 85 mph. The VW driver was talking on a mobile phone when she pulled out from a side street, apparently not seeing the motorcycle. The riders reaction time was not sufficient enough to avoid this accident. The car had two passengers and the bike rider was found INSIDE the car with them. The Volkswagen actually flipped over from the force of impact and landed 20 feet from where the collision took place. All three involved (two in the car and the bike rider) were killed instantly. This graphic demonstration was placed at a Motorcycle Fair by the Police and Road Safety Department.

:dk:

I think I've seen this one before, and if I'm honest it looks like a photoshop. Last time it was said that the bike had been travelling much faster than that (85mph). I'd struggle to imagine that amount of damage from a bike personally at that kind of speed. Anyone know for certain?

I reckon it's not real unless there's some concrete proof - where did it happen for example (clearly not the UK I take it?)

A bit gruesome if it is real of course :(

Hi Swiss Toni

I have seen this display when I saw it it said the car driver and the cyclist survived!! The car door was cut of to allow the driver to be released and the motor cyclist when over the top.

No trying to discredit you post it's just that a mate I mine also saw a VW golf crash with a bike inside and he was told that the 2 people in the back of the car but the cyclist and car driver survived.

I am a road safety consultant and I think that these crashes are bad enough with out the local road safety units scare moungering.

Would live to know where you got the picture from though, did you take them or where they published?

Cheers Aj

You may be right i think it's been set up coz if the bike ended up in the car and their was 2 rear passenger and a cyclist then the emergency services would cut the roof off to gain easy entry.

They are from another forum and have been around for a while. I believe they are German and don't see any evidence of photoshop (the roof does appear to have been cut and the put back).

From my experience, it looks genuine and the damage is perfectly possible form a modern bik into a car.

So why are there two completely different stories circulating as to the speed and details of the crash (85 vs. 155mph, and 20ft away vs. 10ft)?!?

Why on earth would people make stuff up like that if it was a genuine occurance (?)

155mph perhaps I could imagine that kind of carnage, not at 85mph - and from a bike though.

Still a gruesome picture :(

An internet search seems to say its a mockup.

But who knows?

I'd be inclined to agree that it's a mockup/photoshop unless there's some better proof.

If it was real, there'd be plenty of good references/sources showing where/what happened etc.

I still reckon, mockup or not, it wouldn't have happened like that at 85mph. No way.

The best people to ask are those who have the poisoned chalice of attending RTAs.

How they learn to live with some of the sights they endure in their working day beggars belief.

I can remember seeing this actual car and bike at an exhibition a year or so ago..........Unfortunately it IS real.........and a sobering lesson to all of us!

Where abouts out of interest? Do you remember any of the crash details?

This was debunked a long time back.

The bike is in far too good a condition for it to be real and some more evidence turned up.

Dave!

I've no knowledge of this specific incident but I have seen photographs of maybe 100 incidents held in the CCIS database. The level of damage done sometimes to cars and motorbikes is staggering, especially those that contact road furniture and tress. A very sobering reminder indeed.

Hey Swiss Toni you are so right, I saw a picture of a car somewhere on the net when it had been hit by a bike and it was almost cut in half, roof and sills, I am glad I got out of bikes you are so vulnerable.

Scare the life out of me now, used to be a kawi boy had a 1978 900 in about 1986 or 7

These photo's have been doing the rounds for quite a few years now, always with a slightly different story behind the scene. I am also a motorcyclist and have T boned a vehicle (he pulled out from a junction) and you go over not through the other vehicle. I wouldn't think speed would make to much difference, I just don't see how you could end up in there in one piece, just my thoughts.

Nice link wasn't aware of this site or the research. Thanks Aj

My memory is that it was at a National Motorshow a few years ago on a police road safety stand..................I can remember being shocked by it then...................It is still a very sobering picture :(

UK/abroad? Only reason I ask is that it's a LHD Golf. Would be strange to see it dragged around the world.

Are there any other photos of it around on the net? Surely if it'd been seen by thousands of people at motorshows it'd be all over the net by now?
