Still on the subject of wiring this damn Harmon and Kardon Ipod thing....

The FM capability is crap. I need to get this connected directly, but I dont have an aux input. I have the TV Tuner option installed on my command 2.5. I have read that this unit has both audio and video auxilliary ports. Whats stopping me simply connecting via the appropriate plugs (hoping RCA Phono) this unit onto these ports? It would surely simply mean that I needed to select AV-1 (or 2) in the TV option to get glorious sound!

Sounds to easy though, what do you think?

Otherwise this unit is going to be sent back as useless junk!

I dont see why not, I have a playstation running through the Aux in on the TV Tuner, so why not an Ipod?

Yup, you should be able to connect a video ipod !
TV tuner in boot on left hand side behind the trim panel somewhere

I only want audio, and I am thinking of using this as the only available AUX input! Do you reckon it would work if say I connected a normal cd player via phono jacks?

Anything that can be run on phono leads can work through the TV tuner.

Does it need any form of converter as some previous posts seem to indicate that its doesn't have regular phonos!

In the back of the TV Tuner you should see the phono inputs. The easiest way to check is to undo the screws that hold the unit in place and it should then swing out.
You the choose Av 1 or 2 and it should play no problem.

Excellent this could be the way forward!

Only challenge then is to route a cable long enough from the AV inputs on the tuner to the IPOD control box I have purchased!

Thanks

Don't see why. My COMAND 2.5 TV Tuner has standard RCA audio and video inputs. As long has your planned player has standard outputs there should be no problem.

PJayUK,
Have your checked to see if your TV tuner has RCA inputs?
MB did two types of tuner, one with RCA inputs for AV1 and AV2.

The other type uses MQS connector blocks (like in your link).

Either way, you'll be able to connect your new device. If you're lucky, you'll have RCA inputs, and you simply plug and play.
If you're unlucky, (like my W220) you'll have the MQS connectors and then you'll need to purchase the cable shown in your link.

BTW I think forty pounds is a bit steep for that cable. I've seen a couple on eBay Germany for about 25 pounds. (I think this is still expensive, and have talked of making a cable up myself. But you guessed it, I've never got round to it!!)

Yep bloody MQS wotsits, no phono's :(

I like the idea of making my own cable, but not sure what the pinouts are. Can I purchase said connector to make one up would you know?

A while ago, I went through EPC to try and find an MB part number for the MQS connector block (I think it needs to be 2 x 6 way??). I think I found the part number in the end, but can't remember what I did with it!! If I get a chance, I'll have another look.

The RCA phono leads can be bought from Maplins etc.

With regards to pinouts, WIS doesn't show what each pin connects to, but I thought I would try and figure it out as it's only two or three connectors per cable. (Famous last words).

By the by, have you had any luck with your wing mirrors?

Hi Mr Shr

Part number would be useful, in fact I also located a diagram for the harman and becker TV unit that I have in the car. Its a bit difficult to read to be honest but I think I can make out what connections I need for the left and right aux lines. Perhaps I'll email it to you see if you can work it out, I think I still have your email in a PM somewhere.

I did have some success with the wing mirrors. I ended up buying a couple of heated mirror glasses from ebay, they were onlt 15 quid each so I took a punt. I had to modify the connections slightly but they were exactly the right size and went on easily. And the best bit is they work! actually rather well. I am pretty pleased for 30 quid I have heated wing mirrors both sides. I can live without the auto dimming function as I never really saw much benefit in that anyway. I'll also PM you link for the exact ones I bought. A really nice guy en Ebay as it happens very reliable. One of the mirror glasses I bought was slightly damaged but he responded within hours of an email being sent and sent a replacement next day. No Questions asked...

This says its for comand 2.0. Mines a 2.5, however the Tuner picture is the same as mine. So I am guessing this will work fine.

Thanks

Still fancy making my own though, it shouldn't be hard at all. I cant locate the 12 pin multi way connector though yet. I can locate it I can make a nice custom cable using some decent cable I have left over from a hifi installation.
