Dont sell your car like this ! ! ! ! !

Having said that it looks like they are trying to stop traders parking and advertising cars on the street, which I have seen done in London in particular.

Looks like this guy has managed to get caught in the cross fire!

"Asking" and "getting" are two totally unrelated amounts. I would like to sell my house for £550K but I wouldnt get it...................
He will be lucky to get half that...........even with the current sunny weather.......

That is a joke, what a load of old twoddle. The council obviously have nothing better to do other than twiddle their thumbs and think up hair brained ideas like this. I presume this is limited to that area and not widespread.

It states trying to keep spaces free for residents. Now, I'm sorry BUT parking spaces are there for ANYONE to use, unless they require a permit so that is a load of absolute ....... !!!

ETA: SO IF this man was a resident he wouldn't have got fined for advertising his car? Hmmm, sounds all a bit fishy and GREEDY to me!

Has anyone read the comment back from readers. Nice to see they are keeping their standards up...

The issue is that some traders are selling cars off the street and taking all the spaces up permenantly. This is street trading and not allowed without a licence.

It looks like this chap has been caught up un the middle of this, assuming he is indeed selling one car which is indeed his personal car.

But is that the whole issue here, the council are not letting genuine, private people have an "ad" in their car?

He's a non resident (grandad.. ) with a for sale sign in what we believe to be a private car. How can the Council check that he isn't a trader. Either way it's street trading which breaches the Bylaw.

Maybe he should do one for £2995 or two for £6000...

Del Boy.

I don't need to even put me thoughts down on this. Once again the daily mail has done a sterling job in exposing the jobs worth mentality that is indemic in the UK.

Love the avatar ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !

Shear quality...................

Now who else has nice shiny valvecaps ? ? ?

well it is a real issue.. here in nuneaton we have had advertisers dumping cars all over the place.

There must be at least 20 old sierra's with sign writing all over them just dumped on streets... I looked at one the other day and no tax disc..

Also near various major islands, traders are putting cars on the verged area with for sale signs on them... this has been going on for years, but recently has got a lot worse.

They jumped on it down here because it became a problem in certain places. In it's simplest form it is street trading which is illegal without a licence - laws that were put in place to protect Joe Public from getting ripped off by unscrupulous and untraceable traders.

Think about it, a car advertised at the side of the road with a mobile number to call opens up all sorts of possibilities for you getting ripped off

Okay, I can see the logic here but what if I put an ad in my car window, park up at my mates, does that make me a street trader or just a fella who is trying to sell a car without pumping it onto Pistonheads or the 'bay.

I sense legistlation will have to come in to ban sale adverts in cars as the only time one will be able to make sense of one is when the car is parked up.

I think the law is that street trading is either on the highway or on private property within 5-10 metres (depending on the local authority) of the highway

Andy

Fair do. That must mean every time a car has a for sale sign in its window and its out on the road the law is being broken, but who gets convicted, driver or owner (the two are often not the same)?

They will prosecute the driver as he will be seen as the one who is offering the goods for sale.

Street trading laws are a real nightmare to understand but they do (if the law is applied to the letter) stop virtually anyone except shop keepers, licenced peddlars (that's a whole different set of rules but if you were cheeky could actually apply to a moving car :)) and council licenced traders trading on the street.

Usually, councils will leave it alone until it becomes a problem or unless you are doing it right under their noses and then rigorously enforce the law for a few weeks before diverting resources elsewhere.

Interestingly (I believe this is still the case) you don't need a licence to sell a newspaper or magazine on the street......so there is probably nothing to stop you having an ad in the back window of your car for a magazine that costs £10k with a free car :)

You kind of wonder about high street shops, doing all that trading within 5 metres of the highway. Does sticking election posters everwhere count as trading.....

All good fun, I have to say.
