Driving C45 to the alps…. advice needed please

What’s the resort called? 30km’s from Val D’Isere is like Tignes, Les Arcs or somewhere like that? Just being nosey as I’m a skier myself 😀
I wish it was Tignes or Les Arcs. It’s called La Rosière. I’m a horrible snowboarder😂

Yeah, the Evoque has all the bells and whistles and is an extremely capable machine. I know they have bad press but we’ve had it from new since 2015 and it’s not missed a beat…. of course, now I’ve said that, it’ll have some kind of major malfunction that’ll affect this trip 😂
Break a leg! 😁

Nor me! Aspen must’ve been an experience. Nice!
I can highly recommend it, we love it and go back as often as we can but its worth the expense for the amount of terrain. Worst part about it is always the drive from Denver, this time not only in an unfamiliar car (albeit with 4WD), but on all season tyres (rather than full winter's) in a snow storm at night....lol

My friend booked this trip. It was all kind of a rush. Told me it was Val d’isere which is a great resort so I jumped at the chance. Then he realised it was 30 km away from Val d’isere 🤦🏻‍♂️

I read up and it says it’s more beginner to intermediate which doesn’t make much sense to me as it’s mostly red runs. Anyway, it’ll be the first non-working holiday I’ve had since COVID and the hotel appears high end so I’ll take it.

Not keen on the drag lifts though… snowboarders nightmare😩
La Rosiere is a lovely resort and usually quieter than others. We went for new year and never queued more than 3 mins for a lift. Only issue is south facing and with the lack of snow the pistes were soft and slushy like spring. Head to La Thuile and all good up there. Certainly enough to keep you going.

We had a private transfer was talking about snow tyres etc and the guy was saying that the police do check randomly but definitely if isbad weather he said it is now compulsory for snow tyres and carry chains. He had seen a few stopped and turned round on his way to Meribel.

Had a quick look at costs…. £3k per person! Decided to stick to France. Hoping to book a family holiday next year. Three valleys has everything we need until I win the Euromillions!

Thanks, it’s good to hear positive first hand experience. I’m sure it will be fine. One of us is learning to board but is an accomplished skier so it’s probably ideal for him. I’ll be boarding and happy enough to take it easy and enjoy the food, drink and scenery rather than throwing myself off jumps, smashing myself on rails and pounding my knees on black runs. Just need a relaxing break 😩

£800 for tyres that I will only need for 6 days and use for 24 hours
That's only about 33 quid an hour!!

Seriously though, I do NOT recommend Germany or any other snowy place on summer tyres. In Germany, in event of an accident, you are likely to be guilty. And my German friends, on seeing my C124, agreed that, like their much newer MB estate, they are absolute poo in the snow. Better to walk.

Happy skiing.

La Rosiere is opposite Les Arcs, across the valley looking over Bourg St. Maurice. It's virtually on the border with Italy and is (long drag) linked with the Italian resort of La Thuile, included on your lift pass.

I have used Davanti Winter tyres although not on a C43 and found them just as good as any other make. ( I have used winter tyres here for 40 years required in my line of work so have tried many brands over the years)
