DRL's Poll

The latest Porsche drls are the dogs

My wife has a '64' Aygo with DRL's, the main lights however are not automatic

Same on my Vito. However, the DRL's are comparable to a couple of candles on a child's birthday cake.

Just about every new car sold in the past 5 years has auto lights. So anything with DRLs will likewise.

As a result, cars driving in the dark with only their DRLs have probably just switched off their auto lights by mistake. Much like some drivers of older cars forget to switch their lights on.

On the design front, Audi without a doubt. I like how every model has its own signature DRL. No mixing up an A8 with an A4 in your rear view.

As for BMW, they look awful. Old halogen 'angel eyes' looked much better.

I never used the auto lights feature on my S203 , on purpose , not by mistake .

I don't need to 'dumb down' my driving .

My W203 did not have DRLs and indeed I never used the Auto lights feature.

However my W204 has DRLs and the Auto lights feature works great by alternating between DRLs and dipped beam as appropriate.

I also discovered that the Auto wipers feature works quite well.

I like that my W222's DRLs are bright enough for other road users to see, but not enough to dazzle them. The LEDs also look very stylish - I notice when locking at night.

Motorcyclists have always had to use DRLs, so I have no issues with cars using them. If some motorists are neglecting to put their main lights on from dusk onwards, then that's the driver, not the design. Though auto-on night light design is the best solution for that stupidity or carelessness.

On motorbikes, the action of lights on during the day, not the physical implentation seen on 4+ wheeled vehicles.

However in looking up something official, the Highway Code suggested using lights during the day but it's not mandatory - having seen so many bikes with them on over the years, I thought it was compulsory, my bad.
