Drove the new E350 CDI Coupe

I drove my car to the dealers last wed (2nd June) to look at the possibility of giving it back and also to see if this fix of mpg/clatter/delay had been updated on the coupe as the rumours are that there was an update for the saloon a couple of weeks ago.
Arrived at 10:00am and the SM took my car straight in to the workshop (it wasnt booked in I just said I would arrive that day). A couple of minutes later he came through and said there was an update and they were applying it now. 10 minutes more and the car is round the front, SM asks me to take it for a ride with him in.

Apparently now when the car is plugged in, it connects directly to Germany to check for updates to that specific chassis.

Bearing in mind I had just had the injectors reset back on the 13th May (approx 1000miles ago) the car was still running and sounding ok.
However when I drove it out, there was another BIG improvement in Low/mid power and gear changes. The noise I couldn't really tell, maybe a bit quieter but I don't have the noisy clatter back right now anyway but the power was very noticeable. In comfort mode gear changes smooth again and when you press the pedal hard it does pull like a pack of wild horses :)
Press the sport button and that is indeed how it should be, always holding on to gears a lot longer, not thrashing it as such but holding on so when you did press the pedal its like an animal. Likewise at low revs in sport mode, the pedal is very sensitive.
I have done another 500 miles in a few days, mainly back roads and the car is extremely enjoyable!

The delay in comfort mode has *not* been fixed and is still very apparent :(
I can only assume that the ECU update last Wednesday was not the same as the fix that the saloon had the other week (if the delay has been cured).
Its hard to describe but it almost feels like they have attempted at changing something as the delay doesn't happen at every stop now (maybe its me).
If you stop and set off again within a few seconds there doesn't seem to be a delay but if you stop and stay still for say about 10 seconds then the delay will be there when you come to set off. I need to test it a little more or I may just go back to them and say, delay = not fixed.

I have mine booked in next week for the injector reset. Would the new software update be done automatically or would I need to ask for it. I was told that there are a couple of updates due when I booked it, but these were more to do with the COMAND and sat nav unit

They should do the updates automatically but I would mention that you know of other same models having updates applied recently. I am sure they wont miss it out as it doesnt take long to apply.
A couple of things I forgot to mention, I also had the latest Sat Nav update applied that gives full 7 digit postcodes. I did have 7 digits before but not for every town, there only appeared to be a handfull with complete 7 digits. This update takes about 2 hours to do though so be warned!

I managed to get 541 miles out of a tank of fuel over the last few days with an average of 47mph and 41.3mpg. This is varied driving including sport mode with about 70% being motorway.
I am not sure if the latest update changed anything for fuel efficiency but the injector reset certainly did.

Hi Johny5

Is the update you had the awaited ECU update which was expected in July?

I had the injector reset several weeks ago but it sounds as if you have had something more. - ?another interim fix?

Thanks for update re sat nav update - will get it all done same time as the ECu update.

Regards

SH

Thanks for info Johny5. SM said that he would require the car all day to carry out all the work including software updates!

Hi Docman, no as far as I am aware this isnt the ultimate "July fix".
The updates I had were interim updates but nevertheless definately worth it!

Mine has been changed to next week - the technician said he thought the ECU updates would handle the recalibration of the injectors and wasn't aware of this being a separate issue...

Are the ECU upgrades mentioned the "permanant july fix" that my dealer and others have referred to? I thought it wass not out til the end of july. what is the command upgrade ?

Car now back with me after injector codes copied from and to the injectors. The car is certainly less clattery, once hot is as quiet as it was when new though it is still noisiser than I would expect or remember at new when it is cold or on the warm-up cycle, but it is now not embarrassing to drive past people and the 'pinking' sound on acceleration is greatly reduced!! Service Team Manager at Brooklands was really good on this one and has kept me up to date throughout.

A tech fault is being logged with MB UK so hopefully I'll know if and when a perm fix is available - JohnDeere8530 the ECU update put on thsi week is not the perm fix. I cant say I have noticed what that ECU update actually did. But the Sat Nav 7 digit postcode works :)

yes nice car i have the cabrio silver niiiicccceeeee

Hi.

1300 miles since injector reset and car becoming a bit rattly again in the mornings. Not as bad as before but of course the weather is warmer at the moment anyway.

Roll on July and the magic ECU update promised by the dealer.

Also - anyone with Harman Kardon system solved the subwoofer rattle on rear shelf yet?

Hi Docman,
Mine getting noisier again too after similar milage

Still no promise of update from my dealer, just "waiting to hear from Mercedes"... Yawn!

Mine seems to be noisy yet again, its in next monday for faulty parking sensors so will see about an injector reset.

Having all the updates and injector reset done today, will let you know what it's like when I get it back later today or tomorrow
