Drove the new E350 CDI Coupe

Went into Mercedes Canterbury yesterday; very helpful but said that their computer diagnostics was saying that no "fault codes" were evident. Needless to say, the car had not gone into limp home mode on cue! I remain worried that I could suddenly lose power when overtaking...

Re the satnav, they have put a request into Mercedes as to whether there is also an upgrade to full postcode entry for the C-Class Comand system (they acknowledged that there is for the new E-Class).

My dealer still claims to not know of a date for a permeant fix.

Can we list the dealers and their view?

Mine is Mercedes Peterborough (robinsons)

Mercedes Canterbury said they were not aware of a permanent fix but didn't disagree with my assertion that the "350" version of the OM642 engine is less refined than the old "320" version probably due revisions needed to meet latest emissions regulations.

If "we" said to the wretched eco-warriors that they weren't allowed to buy economical cars they wouldn't like it; so how come they're allowed to dictate to us that we can't buy thirsty petrol multi-cylinder engined cars? I would never have had a diesel if there wasn't such a paucity of petrol 6 cylinder models now. Hope BMW never give up on the configuration!

Makes me wonder if it's worth gettingna remap. The emu on 350 was encrypted, but it ha now been cracked by several companies. I will have a chat to a friend of mine who is in the business, to see if I can get a freeby to test out.

It's not as though the new 350 gives much more mpg in the real world than the old 320.

This really has tacken the edge off owning this otherwise great car.

Grrr.

Yeah - definitely my first and last diesel... Anyone who says diesels have caught up with petrols is a million miles off mark!

Yeah but think about all the torque and the in gear acceleration times!! :D

Nah - I'd rather have a refined engine anyday!

I was joking.

Just whenever you speak to a diesel owner they always mention 'torque', which if we are honest means sod all unless you mention the rpm, and then in gear times.

If I see one more post from someone telling me that the 3.0 litre diesel will go from 50-70mph in 4th a second quicker than the 3.0 petrol I will hunt them down and force feed them a gallon of diesel!! :D

Right!!! Pass me that Jerry can!! ;)

Dealers applied an update but they confirmed it wasn't the big one we are all waiting for as it only took a few mins to apply. They estimate early to mid august now. While I was there they happily reset the injectors (it's not noisey but may as well whilst I was there).
No dramatic changes that I could tell, think the delay is still there but am overly happy since the last update as the mpg seems to be on par along with the performance.
I managed 48mpg on the return trip, 25 mile with about 9 mile of motorway.
The car is great now with good mpg if you want it and tremendous power when you don't care for good mpg.

Mercedes Canterbury were not aware of a specific "big" software update that would address the unrefined sound of the 350 version of the engine compared to the older 320 version...

If an update does get released, will dealers contact owners or only apply it if a customer is aware enough to ask for it?

Sorry just reading this thread today, are new deliveries also effected by this issue. I collect mine in September.

If it is the 350 CDi then yes as it looks like it is software related and they have not released the update. You could be luck that they do this before your delivery in September!

It's put me off diesels for life - all bloomin' unrefined and the DPFs seem to clog up causing limp home mode - says something when VW had to quietly buy back diesels from taxi drivers because diesel engines with DPFs aren't really suitable for town driving anymore - don't you just hate what the eco-warriors have done i.e. refused to allow us to buy uneconomical cars and those that we are allowed to buy won't run properly! Oh for the days when you could smell unburnt petrol in the exhaust!

Someone said their dealer told them August-ish now. Who knows when it will turn up.

Mine is certainly getting more noticeable after just under 4k so I am keen to get it sorted.

I wonder if this problem has an effect on the life-span of the engine? After all, if the ignition is all to **** then it could stress and damage the cylinders and/or injectors.
