Drove the new E350 CDI Coupe

Good call from Mercedes today.. Delivery date moved from 3rd May to 13th April - never had news like that from Audi!!!

I had a call today to say new engine should be from June production.

Will have confirmation next week and then I can order.

Sorry... Paranoid man again... Any release from Mercedes DOES NOT show 19" wheels... If anyone has them on their car - any possibility of a picture upload? Starting to panic MASSIVELY

what is the new engine called. I want to order a 350 and will speak to a dealer, but having the model number of the engine will help

I have them on my cab.

I have a brand new set of 18" if you do not like the ride on the 19" The ride on 19" is harder and you have to watch the pot holes!

I've not notice a massive difference between the 2, yes it is slightly firmer but perfectly acceptable. To be fair the state the roads are in, in the uk, you need to watch the potholes with what ever size tyres.

I definately do not regret opting for the 19"s

That's put my mind at rest, especially as I've gone for black too.. thank you - and not a scratch on them.. yet ;-)

Delay in pulling away resolved (Kind of)

So whilst waiting at a set of lights this morning, in normal auto-mode, I pulled the right paddle for no real reason. As the lights changed I accelerated and waiting for the notorious lag, imagine my surprise when the car instantly pulled away.

I subsequently tried this when stopping by not engaging the hold function and again pick up was immediate.

This has happened every time and I am now more confident about crossing busy junctions/roundabouts etc.

Very happy...

(sorry if you already knew this).

I'm very happy to read that.
I'm waiting until I've used up some tread on the brand new tyres my car came with before crossing over to the 19"s.

You may have something there!

The delay is caused due to the gearbox disengaging itself if you come to a standstill and not engage the brake hold function and are also in normal auto mode.
I am guessing that you flicking the right paddle is forcing the car to engage the box.

I am not entirely sure mine has the delay anymore (new 2011 car) or at least I haven't noticed it.
I think you should be able to feel the gear box engaging when you tap the paddleshift if you are at a standstill and it has previousely disengaged.

Well spotted if this works!

With the Command System, I read somewhere that the DVD continues to play (audio only) when the vehicle is moving - this can't be right, can it?

Yes thats correct, the video image only displays below 5kph, anything above and it just shows a message telling you the display has been shut down for safety reasons, the film continues to run in the background with the sound on.

I read somewhere that its due to UK law.

It definitely works, although the display stills shows either 'C' or more usually 'S' rather than '1' - the difference is tremendous... just wish I had discovered this sometime ago.

Agreed! tried it this morning and it worked!

I find that the gearbox dissengages after you have set off and managed to get into second gear then come to a standstill.
This morning whilst at a standstill and holding my foot on the brake I tapped the right paddle shift and felt the car nudge when it engaged the auto box.

Thanks for this, this is a great find! :thumb:

1 more thing though, mine has never had the set off delay issue when in S mode.

I tried this last night, seems to work will try it again tonight. I have had the delay when in S but if this is a cure all then great find by "thebook".:thumb::thumb:

Another agreement here on the delay fix, as stated above when you hit the right paddle you can feel the car engage drive - thanks for the input, great find!!

I've been doing the paddle shift thing since I've had it, didn't realise it was such a big deal  saying that though I don't notice any change in the way the car is acting for it to be engaging drive

Tried the flappy paddle thing on the way home tonight. You can sense the engine straining ever so slightly (against the brakes I suppose?) and then lift off is instantaneous, even in E. Brilliant find. Thanks.

It's a big deal if you're sat at a busy junction and that delay in putting foot to accelerator and actually moving prevents you from attempting to pull out. Especially if you don't know the way the 7g box works, i.e. disengages drive until it sees the accelerator pedal movement. My previous car Volvo coupe T5 auto never had a delay when changing from brake to accelerator it just went but then it didn't disengage drive so more wear on the g/box. These are the only auto's I've owned so I just didn't know any better. Now I do.:D:thumb:

Yeah I suppose, the GL does it all the time but if I'm at a junction or whatever I hold the brake with my left foot and make the it select the gear with a gentle press on the accelerator before releasing the brake, doesn't seem to be a great deal that MB can do with the hesitation issue on the GL just adapted how I drive it to make it less of a nuisance.
