Drove the new E350 CDI Coupe

Yeah I suppose, the GL does it all the time but if I'm at a junction or whatever I hold the brake with my left foot and make the it select the gear with a gentle press on the accelerator before releasing the brake, doesn't seem to be a great deal that MB can do with the hesitation issue on the GL just adapted how I drive it to make it less of a nuisance.

It's obviously a design feature which reduces wear on the g/box, just takes some getting used to after 20 + years of manuals. I think I can put up with it though.;):D

I've read its more to do with emissions and fuel economy than wear.

after what seems like an eternity, the day of reckoning is finally here. In 8 hours time I will be the proud owner of a 350cdi coupe... just the small detail of 'work' to contend with first.

So, in summary..

The wheels are so much better than I thought, I talk of course of the drive quality and not how much they now enable me to 'pimp'. A few things that's taken me time to get use too.. how close you sit to the rear view mirror, I can't get the seats comfortable (yet) although they probably just need softening up.. and weirdly, how when I use voice controls in command it starts to play the ipod on my iphone!?

Love it though.. very very pleased. Tomorrow is public transport day!? What's a man to do!!?

Congrats on the car.

I can;t wait to get mine and going to spend a couple of days driving home from Germany to get maximum drive time in the first few days.

A couple if things.. 1) does anyone's 'Command' interfere with their iPhone - ie, you use your hands free phone and it somehow activates the iPod?

Secondly, does anyone's brakes feel very slightly stuck when first applied?

Thanks people xx

has the noisey engine/injector software issue been resolved on this engine yet ?

I would be interested in hearing some more feedback on this as well, it seems to have gone very quiet from what was a very hot topic not so long ago.

I have been a bit paranoid about engine noise since reading the earlier posts in this thread but so far no issues - have they applied a fix to later cars, mine was built late 2010?

Mine is nearly on 1500 miles and engine sounds great. Work colleagues even commented that it sounded like a quiet petrol even though it's a diesel!

Ever since I got mine last March the brake pedal occasionally feels like it stuck and "clicks" off when you apply it. Not all the time and it doesn't interfere with braking but I always thought it was like it was sticking and my pressing the pedal was unsticking it.

Even though mine has the noise in the cabin (though not as loud anymore) everyone I meet tells me how it's the quietest diesel they have ever heard and that it could easily be mistaken for petrol.

I have just read in Autocar that the new 350 petrol engine (that I have on order) is quieter than a Rolls Royce! They also say that for the first time they recommend petrol over diesel.

It is similar to one in your photo with three phono connectors and single jack which connects to auxiliary media connector. The cable costs £44.65 inc VAT and like you I could not believe that it would be any different from off the shelf video leads which have exactly the same connections. I tried a number of leads, but none gave me a picture when connected to my iPhone, only one gave a fuzzy picture but no sound. I took a gamble today and bought the Mercedes one which worked straight away with an excellent quality picture and sound - I have just had Avatar playing in wide-screen and feels like surround sound. Under video on COMAND I now get the options of DVD and AUX with settings for Auxiliary connection i.e Colour, Sound, Contrast. wide screen, 16-9 and normal.

I am not sure what is different with the Mercedes lead, but it is the only that works for me, could explain why it is £44.65. By the way I am not sure if it makes any difference, but I do have the latest COMAND software update on my car

I use the Apple composite lead to connect to the iPhone. I am going wire it up so I can connect in the armrest, lot easier then playing around in the glovebox

Hello pamrit, with this connector, can you see the video without standing?

In terms of engine noise - I've got the E350...

For the first time today had the windows open and couldnt believe how quiet it was - totally amazed. So much quieter than my 2.0TDI AUDI A4. (hot, hot day)

I did think mine was really quiet but now I have covered more miles in it I am convinced that it is getting noisier. Although thew other day I let ex Mrs Blonde drive the car and as she drove off it sounded quite quiet. Must be going mad (not just for letting the Mrs drive the car!)

Very quickly.. the rear windows in the coupe - should they close as they open, ie one 'over' click and they go up on their own or is it very much a pull and hold?

thanks

No unfortuanately they don't :(

Even though they have the double click style buttons you still have to hold them to close.
Not sure where the logic is with this one, I can only assume that they think there might be children's hands lingering in the way but I know the saloon has the comfort close function.

I'm amazed at this.. disappointed even. I will demonstrate this by donning my sunglasses opening my windows and leaving them down for the remainder of this glorious day!
