If the weather is better than today I will do so, I am intrigued (and a little nervous) to see the interior as all photos I have seen look very different to the swatch I based my choice on back in September. I am also looking forward to seeing what the metallic white looks like as every car I have seen so far in white is Calcite.

Hopefully I am not in for a nasty shock!!

Great choice in colour combination. I'm sure you will love it and hopefully the weather is not too bad to spoil your enjoyment. I have allready started modding mine by fitting the new selectable sprint booster to the car and in the process of looking for bigger alloys. I think the 18" are a bit small for the size of the car:)

My E350 CDI Sport Coupe is being delivered at 11am tomorrow morning :bannana: Cannot wait!!

Well!?? you've had it for 10 minutes already, how is it!? :p

I guess they are going through the handover with you...

I'll be surprised to hear from him for a while, I bet he is playing with his new toy!:bannana:

Hi all

Had my e350cdi coupe sport since Sept.

Great car. One thing i have noticed is a bit of rack rattle i.e some rattle/knock type sensation through steering column on uneven terrain as if there is little damping in steering column . I drove another one at dealer and did the same.

As it is my first merc is this a 'family trait'?

I have not noticed this in mine, although most of my driving is on pretty smooth surfaces.

I have noticed that constantly putting it in Sport mode is fun, if a little more expensive! I think I am addicted...

Hi.

Yes is a great car.

Probbaly not describing it that well - it is like a bit of kickback through steering over bumps. Is perfect on smooth roads.

Doing a bit of googling , steering kickback does seem to be a mercedes trend of late : -

Wheels - Mercedes-Benz CL500
"Firstly, like most modern Mercedes, all CLs on the launch program, regardless of spec, exhibited some degree of rack rattle and steering kickback "

Also - Mercedes E220 CDI SE | First Drives | Car Reviews | Auto Express
"or the same steering feel, and there is a fair degree of kickback through the overly large wheel, too. "

Track Drive: Mercedes SL63 AMG (2008 onwards model) - *Reviews - MSN Cars - MSN UK
"Pity steering kickback over mid-corner bumps spoils this feeling of firm, long-wheelbase precision "

And review c63AMG on top gear stated
"The steering is pin-sharp and prone to kickback on the broken Spanish tarmac, "

So probably i did not describe symptoms very well and as i say the dealers e coupe also had same kickback.

Just used to BMW as been driving them for long time and steering is very different to mercs.

Regards

SH

C350CDI delivered Mar '10 - Exactly the same problems

Just heard from the service manager, apparently, they have been back to merc techs in UK and Germany, and have loaded a new ECU update, and calibrated it to the injectors. He is saying that the car is much quieter. I will collect it when it is fully cold later today, and will be comparing it to a brand new one just delivered, along with the service manager.

He knew that the temp car has the same problems, that is "their next project"
Would have been nice to know that!

I will report back later, I still have a feeling that the journey hasn't ended.

I took delivery of a C350CDI on 10/03/10 and it has the seemingly standard pinking /tinkling noise between 1000-2000rpm under light to moderate load. It seems so unrefined even compared to our Mondeo 4-cyl diesel pool cars at work!

Mercedes Ashford & Canterbury are so unhelpful (refusing to even correct a misaligned steering wheel with a simple adjustment of the tie rods) so wondered what dealer you have used? I live in Whitstable, Kent.

Try another dealer. I am suprised it sounds like this, try another car and see if it does the same. Those V6s are refined.

a comment on the "pinking"...
I have had my 350cdi coupe now for six months and the "pinking noise was there under acceleration but I noticed that it seemed to be fuel related.
ordinary diesel it was sometimes bad (Esso & Tesco) less so on BP or Jet and much less on BP Ultimate.
However since using BP ordinary with Millers Diesal Power Ecomax added, the "pinking" noise has completely disappeared. It took a couple of tanks to take effect but no noise !

My March 2010 C350CDI has the same problem. Kent Mercedes dealers totally unhelpful. Steve Clark on here seems to have managed to have the problem corrected by a dealer (in Cambridgeshire?). Seems so Heath-Robinson to have to add Millers to a brand new Mercedes to reduce awful noise!

My car has same problem - sounds so unrefined. Seems riduculous that you have to manually add stuff to the fuel tank of a new Mercedes to make it run satisfactorily!

Well, thanks again for this thread, just picked the wife up and I mentioned that it sounds like a truck at times and she heard the "pinking/knocking" noise just now.
It is in with Merc on Tuesday for the delay in setting off along with fuel mpg (impossible to get more that 41mpg no matter how and where I drive it) and I am convinced now that my car needs the same tweaking as Steve_acp.
I am getting a 350 saloon to play with for a few days, lets see how the mpg compares to mine, same engine.

Steve_acp, does the "truck" sound file still work on your web blog? I can play the new one but unable to play the truck version in both safari or firefox.

The old noise on the web page does not work now for some reason (merc web tech conspiracy theory!)

I have reloaded page, please try again.

I think mine is getting worse again, I am about to take in. A friend has the 350 saloon, it is a much bigger car, and better insulated (the coupe is basically a c class with a new body), but I think the engine sounds the same.

Once you tune into the noise, it drives you crazy doesn't it. I will insist on an extended test drive before I buy another merc.

Dealer is Robinsons Merc in Peterborough. Best dealer for me is Merc Bedford. I bought from p'boro as the sales guy moved, but I had to threaten them with "backing" the car to get anything done.

Interesting comments about the fuel. I am on tesco at the moment, and it sounds terrible. I will treat to a tank of BP ultimate and listen for a difference.

We shouldn't have to go through this crap having spent 40K+ on a car!

How often do you have to use Millers. Every fill up, or does it last?
