Car
cls350
purchased my cls from main dealer,it had covered 23 miles since it's last mot, paid £185 road tax and waited 3 weeks for the v5 to arrive.i then tried to assign my number plate on line, refused.rang up Swansea to be informed that as the car had been untaxed for a period of time I would have to send my v5 and v750 to them, approx wait 2-4 weeks for my new v5 to arrive and I may have to have my car checked at an approved mot centre.what a waste of time and money as they already had the relevant docs.as all remaining tax is now returned to the previous owner the car must be untaxed therefore this must be a problem to anyone wishing to change number plates (rant over)

very surprised my new v5 arrived today after only 6 days so no problems were found by dvla what a suprise

I have always had great service from the DVLA - may have just been lucky, but its a shame that their local offices closed.

I used to go to preston to do my bits and pieces but I was told they have bit the dust don't know if that is correct or not just a shame everything is computerised now

DVLA seem to be on the case at the moment. Part exed my car 13 days ago, got the V5 for the new one yesterday, and today got my notification that I wasn't the owner of the old car anymore and a cheque for the tax refund. Pretty snappy compared to most governmental organisations..

Cheers,

Gaz

In my experience, any dealings with the DVLA have a binary outcome: It either works brilliantly, or it's so unbelievably bad you wish you'd never started

Among other things as Company Secretary of an SME, I mange the fleet, which just means telling people to get an MOT and payi for tax. I love the online presence of the DVLA. I live 10 miles south of Preston but it probably took me as long to get to their office as it did you from where you are!

Remember the olds days when you had to meet your "mates" in person to talk about Mercs.

:)

New on line system has worked well for me, but as previously said if you are one of the unlucky ones you may have all sorts of problems. Number plate changes are instant if you have the paperwork in place.

Yep Preston was my local office. There didn't appear to be a single problem they couldn't resolve instantly. Shame.

Now that would be worth watching.
