E200 2001 W210 Fuel gauge

When I fill the car with petrol it still never results in the needle on gauge being at the max level. Any ideas what could be wrong. Is it likely that the float switch is faulty/loose - is it easily accessible?

Any help much appreciated?

Many fuel float problems can be cured by adding some injction cleaner to the tank.

I believe the is an access panel under the seat
