Hi, I'm pretty new to MB ownership but continue to be surprised at how such a big car can be so economical.

I regularly get around 45-48mpg on my 32 mile trip to work but the other weekend we had a steady trip to Heathrow airport and got a major surprise when I looked at the display and it showed 62.2mpg.:D

The car is a W210 E220 CDI.

Thanks

Don't believe everything you read :D

Never saw better than 44mpg out of mine.. :(

Nice one! Is yours a manual or auto?

Hi all, its an auto. I was on cruise for a good portion of the journey as it was earlyish and there was very little traffic.

Thanks
Mark

I've had over 50 on mine on a long run.
This was even traveling at speed 75+ at times.
What speeds were you doing?

My C Coupe is doing late 30s-early 40s around town and won't go about 44 on the motorway, but then the temp isn't going above 60 even though the heater is working fine, new thermostat needed I imagine.

Over 60 is great economy, is this the OM611 engine too?.

Hi, we had plenty of time to get to Heathrow so it was about 60mph average. can get high 40's/low 50's at normal motorway speeds though.

Not sure if its the OM611 engine?

Thanks
Mark

Would be interested to know what brand of fuel you use?
My E220 is not bad but if I can squeeze more out of a gallon by changing fuel it must be worth it.

I got 57.8 out of my 320 on ordinary, every day, cheapest I could find, supermarket fuel.

Hi, I use normal Shell diesel whenever I can as I have their loyalty card and they are the 2 nearest stations on my commute.

Thanks
Mark

use the top up method to determine your mph more accurately; trip computers aren't the most reliable...

Never got better than indicated 42 mpg out of mine. It's an E220 blueeff cab with the 7g plus box. Got that doing 77 mph so not hoofing it. Hope it improves when it loosens up a bit and the weather warms up.

thats great for 77mph... these engines do awesome mpg between 50- 55 mph though; i'm sure you'd hit the 50mpg range if you tried it at slower speeds...
