E270 CDI 2003 Gearbox

Our friends at Mercedes have responded by email, not exactky the answer she gave me on the telephone.

I have replied asking for them to confirm will not have part of the faulty radiator batch.

Now if I was a lawyer- and I'm not------- the phrase safety recall would concern me. As far as I know leaked coollant into the gearbox was never a safety issue So if I was being picky they haven't actually answered your question. This may simply be imprecise language or you made the mistake of couching your question in safety terms or_________?It's a non answer. Unfortunately its probably the best you are going to get :dk:

Yes see what you mean, I asked a direct non safety question. I have since replied asking the question again. To behonest im hoping im okay and do not have the valeo or the previous owners changed it etc. However I think I may send them info from this site anyway and see what they say. A company like this should recognise the problem in public. Perhaps if we all complain should get the attention we need ??

Not sure if the owners of this forum would be too enamoured of you quoting them directly as a source since Mercedes are a bit touchy about copyright issues etc. As for getting their attention Mercedes along with other car manufacturers are pretty adept at avoiding issues-- especially one as old as this which in fairness they did address at the time on an individual basis. :dk: Its only when joint class actions are brought in the USA that things often start to happen----a type of legal redress not available here. Your best bet is to get the car checked by a good independent MB specialist in the UK if you are still worried but forget taking on MB ---life's too short.;)

Yes you right on both accounts. Just annoys me that they play dumb.

I have asked Mercedes several questions regarding the valeo radiator etc

They have confirmed my car was fitted with one and during that period they are aware of a fault with "some" of the batch.

Next step is the test, hopefully previous owners had the radiator changed in the past.

I have noticed the rev counter moving up and down slightly when at a constant speed or at idle. Perhaps that may also be why I get the occasional jolt when changing gear. Also thanks for your all your help much appreciated

Finally believe have solved problem, had a major service with gearbox service yesterday and it appears when gearbox was being serviced the pilot Bush had been leaking on the electrical plate and into wiring loom. Also a bolt or something that connects the electrical plate and Bush is loose and broken (I presume is a bolt) Anyway so new electrical plate and Bush being fitted my indie believes this would cause the occasional jolts and odd gear changes. The electrical plate around £200 plus fitting. Any thoughts people?
