Those of you who have blanked off or disabled the EGR valve and are still running on diesel, do you re-enable the EGR valve for the MOT or is it not an issue for the emissions test?

i leave it disabled. never had a problem

Hi Olivier, yes we checked & replaced the fuel strainer in the tank and the 2 in the engine bay, but they were pretty clean anyway.

May have had more than 1 problem. Car died on me at slip road lights and all I got was "clicks" when I tried to restart. Diagnosed as an issue with the alternator, fixed temporarily by the AA man hitting it a few times with a stick. Was generating less than required charge. Sourced a 2nd hand replacement via Ebay, now fitted. Seems okay when warm but looks like the glow plugs now need replacing (no light on dash at start up) so the car is a bit hesitant and can die until up to working temperature.

...one other thing! Some time back the heat exchanger between the Oil and Coolant systems went porous and allowed oil to enter the cooling system. The heat exchanger was replaced and my indie and I tried to clear out as much of the oil as we could from the coolant system by flushing and replacing fluid, including using radiator flush to clear the radiator. The expansion bottle still contains dark grey liquid and I'm wondering whether its slightly gloopy consistency or characteristics may bear some responsibility for some of the problems. Once up to operating temperature the car seems fine, but until then is somewhat prone to stalling.
