E320 CDI (W210) Service Tips?

The car's going in for its (13 Month Option) MOT on Tuesday and it's now about ready after over £1,250.00 being spent on tyres, brakes, handbrake and steering and some bonnet catches etc.

I'm also asking the garage to do as full a service as possible because I've had the car eleven months and it came with no service history.

I bought genuine Mercedes service parts: 7 litres Mobil Super 3000 5W-40, oil filter and plug washer, fuel filter, dust filter and air filter and I'm having the coolant flushed out and replaced.

The garage is happy to use what I've bought because no seals on the packaging are broken.

It's a 2000 E320 CDI Estate.

What else that's cheap to do can I ask the garage to do re the service.

Can they clean out the throttle body or the MAFF or whatever it's called.

Basically I'd like to get the fuel system nice and clean.

I'd asked on here about the power steering fluid being replaced but one poster said "leave it alone". It works fine but looks really grey in colour.

The air conditioning is already ice cold so I'm not going to worry about re-gassing that yet.

I'm trying to think of other stuff but I'm a bit strumped.

I'm leaving the 'sealed' transmission alone re fluid even though the car's done 124500 miles in its twelve years.

I expect I'll only do about 5000 miles over the next twelve months.

Wipers seem alright and I'll white grease the front mechanism.

So, just service stuff that doesn't take long and won't cost me much above the labour rate.

Cos I is now getting to a point where enough wonga is enough.

(Famous last words).

Seems to me that you've got most things covered already. Why add to the bill if things don't need doing?

Thanks for the reply.

There must be something I've overlooked and will regret not getting done.

What about this throttle body thing?

I imagine something full of gunge and how nice it will look and how well it will perform when it's cleaned out.

With all the filters there must be something that can be done on the fuel side besides the filter.

Saying that, I poured a couple of bottles of Redex into the tank and took the car up the A428 to the Black Cat roundabout and back to warm it up and dry the cat out a bit because I seldom do over 30 mph and the engine temp never gets above 50c.

It wasn't clever but the car got warmed up round town and then up to 80c when I booted it down the A428 at well over 100. (embarassed to say how fast -it's not good and it's not clever but hopefully it'll help with the emissions test).

13 month option MOT tomorrow.
