E320 drive is erratic when cold

Hi Can anyone help me figure this out. I have a 2004 E320 CDI. The car starts fine and when warm drives fine, and will idle on the drive on a frosty morning for 20 minuets all fine. But after starting from cold the first 5 minuets are very erratic.
The revs at 30-40 mph will Pogo between 15 and 20 and the car slows or speeds up with a life of its own. My local MB garage did a gear box service and found no faults on the record, another garage cleaned the EGR valve but still have the problem, any ideas please.

You may find it needs an Italian tune up.

Going and give it a good blast at high RPM with some decent quality fuel in it and some fuel system cleaner.

Hi Olly I took it to Portugal and back in the summer 3600 miles round trip, I did put a couple of bottles of fuel additives in but I have not gone much over 80 MPH in it ever. so maybe a trip to Germany is on the cards. Cheers

Just put it in maual mode in a low enough gear with high revs so your not going over the speed limit

Maybe your car got addicted to Redex?

A mechanic told me that's what can happen, but I have no idea if there's any basis of truth in it. Anyone know?
