Gents,

My driver's side electric window will not raise more than a couple of inches, when I try to close it.It appears that the glass may have tilted a little(bolt loose internally?).The motor and button seem to be working fine.

Any suggestions please,and-if possible-any drawings showing the guts of this mechanism.

The lifting mechanism could have broken . The window is lifted using a sissor type mechanism ,and where the 2 arms pivot can break . It could also be that the 30tx screw that ataches the window to the foward facing arm and alows adjustment could need tp be retighened .
The door panel will have to be removed to check the arms . This is fastened with 4 screws , one behind the door release handle , one behind the circular cap on the door panel , one behind the SRS badge and one holding the C shaped cover around the door lock . With these off just pull the panel away from the door and lift it out from the 4 clips along the window .
With the panel off pull back the plastic and this will alow you to see the mechanism . The mechanism is held on with 6 rivets , these are dirled out with a 4 mm dril bit , and have to be replaced with steel , not alloy , rivets .
Hope this helps

E320CDi(W210) window problem

Dear Shorty-Excellent advice, particularly in relation to finding the screws to take off door cover!

I now have the mechanism working again, after adjusting the screw on the centering mechanism and liberal ammounts of WD40.The car has done nearly 250,000 miles,so things got a bit stiff.I also took off the rubbers at the top of the door widow slots and cleaned the glass,in case there was any grit slowing things down. All now fixed with my thanks.

That some milage on a car , it shows what mercs can do ! Im pleased that i could help . Happy motoring ,

Dear Shorty,

This car has done me well.I acquired it at 66000 miles,5 years ago.It still does 140 mph(in Germany!),and most problems have been minor. It's worked hard, which may be why it has lasted so long.I have a very good local mechanic.Main problems have been-power steering pump and line between pump and hydraulic reservoir,1 injector that popped out of the head(helicoil of head in situ),and electronic pickup on camshaft. It does 35 mpg normally and 40mpg if driver at 70mph all day.

It's the first Merc I have owned, although my dad had several including a 300SE 6.3! I have owned some Merc trucks and vans, all of which gave excellent service(inc a Merc 508D van that did more than 1 million miles)

While I could afford to update to a V6 diesel E 320CDi,I have heard bad things about the electrics,so I'll carry on with the W210 for the time being.
