E350 CDi COMAND - check map date?

getting a new E350 CDI Sport with comand.

How do I check that it has the latest navigation map and firmware.

Would it be safe to assume that a new car should have the latest maps/firmware?

I would say it is a safe assumption. All my new cars in the last few years have come with the latest navigation soft/firmware as their build date.
This includes the hard drive systems in the S and CLS

I wondered this myself, as when I got my E350 on March 1st, I noticed that a major extension to the ring road here in Sheffield, which has been in place for about 2-3 years now, was not on the map.

Of course that doesn't mean it's an out of date map, it could just mean the map provider hasn't mapped the new road yet.

It is however on my TomTom.

not sure of my build date. Is there a way of checking the map version? Presumably via the comand menu
