Im going to need a 'A' service in the next 1300 miles. I have already bought 8 litres of Mobil 1 (mate got it from Costcos for me - £47 :thumb:).

Given I can provide the oil, what the best I can expect to get this service for? The Mercedes website quote £249 with the oil - what should an indy charge for the service with the oil provided?

I understand the 'A' service is little more than an oil change and quick plug into Star. Given I have a full service history I do want the stamp in the book.

Cheers

Sorry can't answer your question, but just wanted to chip in to say that a good garage will also do a series of checks on the car too. Whereas a cheaper garage may only do an oil and filter change.

£47 for 8 litres you sure its that cheap ? its £47 for 5 litres at halfords and that is a special offer.

That price is correct, Costco are the cheapest around for Mobil oil. £19.99 + vat for 4l.

Yes, I'm looking for such a garage that does these checks. I still insist on a full Mercedes history. They do 21 checks with a A service, and 33 with a B service. Fixed pricing for my W211 - £249/£389.

Checks include all electrics, brakes, suspension, seatbelts, all fluids, battery, right down to checking the tyre pressures (inc.spare). I know they do this because I run mine on full load, and they adjusted the pressure back to normal!

Given my high annual mileage and my job, I can't afford to do things "cheap".

However, I'm not quite sure whether they charge £249 for your E55? Is this from the website? It could be more as yours is an AMG model?

I see that kwik fit do an oil service using mobil 1 for my car for £49.99 including oil/filter. Will be going there this Friday!!!

I've already done it. I went a few weeks ago but they didn't have the filter. They ordered one in so I'm going back on Friday to get it done

s this for your CLK55? and will they be able to re-set the ASSYST? and stamp the book?

I thought of calling Olly, but it'd cost me as much in petrol to drive there and back as a service!

MB quote £249 for an A service that does not include AMG or V8's. they will be a lot more.

Terms & Conditions.

The prices quoted cover the basic service procedure only. To keep your vehicle serviced in accordance with the manufacturers guidelines there may be some additional items required due to age or mileage stipulations which must be carried out to maintain your complete service history. Prices for AMG, V8 and Diesel particulate may vary to the prices quoted. All prices shown include VAT.

crammy im local to you ring merc dartford and orpington for quotes let me know how you get on

You should be able to negotiate an 'A' service to around £150-200+ VAT if you're supplying the oil I'd guess.

I think the last MB service carried out on the CLK55 was £149.99 (probably +VAT) with the previous owner supplying the correct grade of MB-approved oil. Seemed cheap to me?

Depends on whether you think the stamp is worth the extra, I'd probably look to an indi now for the age/mileage of the car, not sure how much more goodwill/Mobilo wiggle room is left anymore?

FWIW, MB serviced the CLK at something like 68k miles, missed a leaky/noisy water pump and then picked up on it less than 2k miles later stating that it needed doing ASAP when it'd clearly been like that for some time... :o

A decent MB-specialist who can work to their own schedule gives the best quality of service IMHO, they will probably spend longer inspecting the car and usually will have more experience I reckon - but it depends on how much you value the stamp I guess :)

Thats the thing, the stamp probably wont add anything to the cars value as such, but its one of those things, once its had one non-mb service its no longer "FMBSH", and my current leaning is that given it will probably not need another sevice ( due to my low mileage) for 18 months or more, then why not..

Of course at some stage I shall get the rocker cover gaskets refreshed, and that job will go to someone like Olly. Having said that I do need to go to southampton to catch a cruise in April, so maybe I could combine the two, leave the car with him and collect it after the cruise...

Would an independent be able to access the MB electronic service schedule (or whatever it is called), and also keep it up to date when a service is done there, to find out what needs doing? Not all filters are replaced at the same interval, as it depends on mileage and/or time?

As per another thread, I posted to, for my E55 amg (91k miles) the dealer (Mercedes Benz Warrington) said £499 inc vat for a full B service which includes a bit of extra for flushing the brake fluid. They did check the full MB history and going with what it recomends doing on the car. Based on higher mileage that could change from car to car. They also quoted me £220 including vat for servicing the auto box, although I am hesitant for this as the car shifts fine as it is.

Simon, I had a call from my local MB dealer today about the 55, wanted to know when I was going to book it in for a service! Spooky! :D

As Will said, I would think you could negotiate a bit, the dealers must be feeling the pinch a bit at the mo.....
