Hi guys,

What insurance companies are best and don't ask for trackers to be fitted? I've got an S-reg E55 AMG.

Cheers

You might do better trying a 'comparethemarket' type site.

Of all the companies I went to, I don't remember any asking for a tracking device.

They all ask if a tracker is fitted as they do alarms, seems to be a standard question.
I had problems with some places where you have to choose the alarm off their list and it's not there.
I must have got about 20 quotes 3 weeks ago and they came back between £1500 and £7,500!!
I was about to give up and stay with the company I had as they were £1500 but I ended up with more than for £766, yet last year they were quoting me 3 grand.
I have 17 years no claims and 20 years clean license, so I don't know how other people get on but I do know some people only pay 400ish.

Insurance companies are going bum bum kabum.Last year my s500 46£ a month same company renewal double ??? Called them and said is my car value go up or what ??? They cannot do nothing they say so I switch, that's how they respect customers 8 years no claim bonus and was with them 5 years.
You need to really take time search and search....crazy

I rang my company up and asked them if they could match my quote because I'd been with them for a few years, they said no...They didn't even ask how much my quote was.

Thanks guys, I've done the 'compare'-type sites but they're not competitive, typically £1000 more than my current policy with Swiftcover. I'd stay with them but it seems they require a tracker which I haven't got, so it's either fork out for a tracker or find a new policy. :wallbash:

After two hours on the phone I finally seem to be getting somewhere with the smaller more specialist brokers, at last!

True - but there is a big difference between asking whether you have it and asking for it to be fitted, of which the latter I was eluding to.

Have you tried Adrian Flux - they were good when I struggled with reasonable quotes for a couple of BMWs historically?

To the OP:

What's your details like (roughly - age/previous claim/convictions, annual mileage, use of any other cars etc)?

Is the car garaged?

It could well be worth you looking into classic insurance, subject to some more info.

Tracker on a 1998/9 E55 seems a bit rich to me.

I'm 29 and pay around £220 PA fully comp for my 2001 CLK55 with very reasonable conditions. It's on a limited mileage but that's fine for me as I don't do much PA in this one.

Worth a look at this recent thread:

HTH.
