Going through the Dartford tunnel yesterday, a W reg E55 W210 came past me in the lorry.
It has a single exhaust pipe coming out of each side of the rear bumper.
I looked underneath mine and couldn't see where to run the pipe on the O/S.
Is it a members car on here, or does anyone know how it was done?
The car was in A1 condition and sounded excellent.
Nice deep rumble, though not too loud.

This doesn't exactly answer your question, but:

Have you seen these guys:

Koenig Quad tailpipe Stainless Sport exhaust– 70 or 80mm - For W210 E36/ E50/ E55 models

The site has other bits and pieces on there that might be useful?

All the best

Great exhausts, but the price!!!! I even cleaned my glasses to make sure I was not seeing things. Is it £1902?

The Rabbi would excommunicate me if I spent that much on our car :D :D

AFAIK a lot of systems like that are largely cosmetic i.e. there's a single system right to the rear of the car on the 'normal' side, then a pipe runs across by the back box to get the exit(s) on the other side.

I thought of this too, but looking under the O/S of mine, there is about 1 1/4" of space available to fit a secondary pipe.
Maybe they had a squashed pipe in there.
I'll investigate a bit further before making the trip to Ians for the original plan:devil:

If you use oval pipe the internal area doesnt change but the pipe is thinner.

Maybe I should adopt the 'halve the price' rule:D

Blast.
I forgot about that one.;)

From what I understand the E55 and 500E have basically the same engines?

I looked into it quite a lot on the 500E and came to a few conclusions.

Firstly, if you go for making a set of manifolds they need to be Ceramic coated, there is little space for well made system and if you are going to Mig Weld it etc then don't bother, have it made properly with compound bends or just leave the manifolds stock.

The Cats would need to be replaced, I was thinking of Cat Bypass pipes but decided against it, some High Flow Cats are the order of the day I think, not looked into what designs or styles work best mind you.

Keep the same Silencers in the system but obviously uprated stainless ones, It keeps a nice woofle and stops it just being noise which many American V8'#s sound like when all they run is Cherry Bombs at the back.

Keep it looking standard, I think the stealthy look rocks, Iron fist in a velvet glove look.

I'll be having the tailpipes hidden behind the bumper as the W124 has no exhaust cutout.

Prices ranged from 1200 for a Cat Back system to £3300 for a Ceramic manifold coated system from front to back

Dave!

Thanks Dave.
I have already removed the center silencer, which gives more power and a slightly deeper rumble, but it is still not the sound I am after.
I don't want it to sound like a firebird with cherry bombs on, but would like a little bit more than I have at present.
Am going to see a man (or rather his wife) at Brands Hatch in the morning (Jeff Howe exhausts?) about making a 1 off system.

I think you will need an X pipe just before or after the Cats to get the sound you want.

Some say it is also good for power but i've not really looked into it. It definitely gives a sweet V8 sound without turning into just noise when you get higher up the powerband.

;) :o I'll supply the whip!!

""Ohhh... I'm so depressed.""" (Upset and depressed husband lets tears trickle down cheek, remember the raw onion??)

""My car rumble sounds more like a raspberry. I would be so much happier if I could have a new super exhaust from this very cheap charity shop.""" :D :D

Have you tried standing on a street corner selling copies of the 'Big Issue'? You would soon be able to buy the new exhaust system. ;)

How on earth did they fit those HUGE exhaust pipes above the boot-line?? It must be both hot and very noisey for hte passenger. Is this the new hair drying option for the new coupe's? :D
