e63 AMG Blown Engine

1994 Honda CRX VTEC made 160 bhp from a 1.6 L

e63 - full service history - 50k miles
engine has has total blow up - as these are "sealed units" it needs a new engine
mb warranty will not fix - for 2 reasons
1 - the car was over the service limit - by 700 miles and 3 months - this confuses me - yes it was 700 miles over but this is within the variation allowed - but 3 months - how can it be three months over when the message on the dash states miles to the service and then miles exceeded - IT DOESN'T GIVE A TIME DOES IT

2 - the value of the new engine - fitted is more than the purchase price of the car - so mb warranty (its not actually mb - its mondial alliance) are trying to get out of it - CAN I USE MB WARRANTY MONEY TO GET AN INDEPENDENT TO FIT A NEW ENGINE - bet that it can be done for less than 29k which was the purchase price of car

any advice much appreciated
tim

So, out of interest - why having bought an expensive to run, performance saloon, with a warranty, did you not bother to service it's highly strung performance engine?

To answer the second part of your post - I would very much doubt they would pay out for an Indi to fit a new engine.

thanks for the advice some of which was useful - other stuff was a load of rant from idiots who don't read

yes the car was serviced - like i say 700 miles overdue the service but this is within mb warranty tolerances

anyone who suggets an e63 is highly strung obviously has never driven one

we'll see what happens - thanks for the useful advice

Wasn't it 1590cc or 1595cc?

M3 Evo was 3201cc and 321BHP.

The CRX would have to be exactly 1600 or it might have been the M3 and Mclaren F1 were the first producing over 100BHP from naturally-aspirated engine.

If it's anything like the E55K, it may as well have a pipe and reclining armchair...

It might well have been 1590cc , but if it was , then it was producing over 100bhp per litre as 1590cc would be 159bhp to hit the magic mark.

Let us know how you get on :thumb:

Ferrari 355 had 109 bhp/litre back in 1994. 430 has 117 bhp/litre and the 458 is now running 125 bhp/litre.

Honda S2000 had 120hp a litre in 1999 NA of course.

My new SLK55AMG is no where near a 100, can't be bothered to do the math 421/5.5!

The replacement for te 458 will have 133 bhp/litre.

Wonder when they'll join the turbo club...........
