E63s W213 vs M3 F80

Interestingly, I owned an F80 M3 and I had it remapped to circa 510bhp. My mate owned a 140i with a tuning box on it and we had a similar dabble to the one you describe. My M3 did pull away but only marginally when in a rolling start. I thought something was off with the remap as I thought I'd muller a tuned 140i. When I sold the car and took the remap off it I thought the M3 felt really really slow so I guess the remap was fine and the BHP figures don't mean that much from a rolling start? My car was a DCT in full sport plus mode.

Bit disappointed to hear you didn't smoke a standard F80. I am collecting a non-s E63 tomorrow so was hoping it would be a good step up on the M3. 1st post here, so hello in advance :).
Congratulations and hope you enjoy the car!

I think it is definitely a step up from an F80 M3, especially the 0-60 range is ridiculously fast, all bundled up with an executive and luxury feel.

M140i is very quick but I feel they lose way more power at the rear wheels than the M3. In my opinion in that race, the tyres you’re running will determine who wins.

.... as I thought I'd muller a tuned 140i

One of the most underrated cars out there, even in standard form.

Pair of my colleagues have nearly new M3 and 140i and they do "drag race", even though they should know better at "our" ages - virtually nothing in it until at silly speeds.

Also to add, I was tanked on 95Ron regular unleaded as the premium stuff had run out

And thereby lies the rub. On one of my visits to Acid when like you, I was running on 95 RON as a result of Beaconsfield services being out of Optimax !!, he reckoned I was losing something in the order of 50 - 60BHP on the rolling road.

That changed the moment I got an AMG!.:p

Does make one wonder if spending untold money on mods and tunes on cars does it justify these 0 to 60 times. Over say a unmodified high performance car.

Wear and tear has to have a long term affect also on components.

A good remap doesn’t just make your faster. It can also make it more drivable, and to a point can also make it a little more fuel efficient.

You'll love it.

In day to day, and in particular point to point, driving an E63s is a noticeably quicker car than an M3. You'll be able to put down far more of the power far more of the time. Irrespective of what this little dalliance under discussion might be telling you be in no doubt that the W213 is a phenomenally fas, and accessibly so, car.

If you want a bit more oomph and don't want to fret about warranty then do what I did and raid the Brabbus catalogue for an easy 700BHP and approx 1000nm all supplied and fitted by my supplying dealer.

Genuine question: What does “make it more driveable” actually mean?

This keeps warranty intact? Where can I look in to this please?

Your profile says London, Mercedes Benz Brooklands will do it for you, just down the A3. They will even do the full 800 BHP

Thanks for that. I’ll defo give them a shout. Do you know what the cost is on the 700BHP version?

The 700hp is just the plug in tuning box, I think its around £3k iirc, slightly higher in price than the Performmaster one which doesn't have full factory warranty in the UK.

It's great to be content with what one has power wise under there right foot.

What is the main reason people want to increase the power of there cars?:dk:

Because you can.
I didn't need the extra power, but wanted to find out what its like to have it.
I wouldn't go back to stock now.

Didn't you have a remapped E55 with smaller pulley?

Some of us take them down the drag racing track where standard power won't cut it. You should do it one day in your 6.2 E63. Then either get a supercharger or an M157 car.
