OK, in the second paragraph, it says that as a new ebayer they can't offer a buy it now price now i thought i knew ebay pretty well , but i have never heard of this....

Reckon its a scam ?

I've not sold anything on ebay, but if i remember correctly you have to pay to have a Buy-It-Now price, so perhaps they're avoiding that cost.

Selling something as potentially 'dodgy' as a car stereo, you'd think that they would want to be as transparent as possible ..

Nope , 10 positive posts or 20 can't remember or if you sign up with direct debit before you can do a buy it now.
