Electric Wing Mirrors/Summer Opening Query

Hi all, newbie to the forum, I wonder if you can help me with a query?
I have a C180 01 reg. It has electronic folding exterior mirrors but the car was not programmed to fold the exterior mirrors in on switch off of the ignition and back out when you switch on. I was just wondering whether this is possible as an upgrade or if there is a way of doing it??

Also is there a way of programming the car to close or open (Summer opening/closing) with one push of the keyfob - I feel a little foolish if I ever forget to close them inside the car when I have to stand outside my car for 5 mins (exagerated) to close the pan sunroof...?

Thanks all in advance.

Hello and welcome to the forum.

Don't know about mirrors.

But on my W203 which is a later model than yours,
If I come out of the car and hold down the lock button on the key fob, all open windows close themselves.
This also works in reverse, I.E. when I press the unlock button on the key fob and keep it held it opens all the windows

Regards,

Alex.

Electric Mirrors/Summer Opening Query

Hi Speedy, yeah thanks I was just wondering whether there was a way to let the car know a One Click command for opening and closing instead of holding down the buttons.

Nope. You have to hold the buttons down. There is no other way.

I understand the want to have the car auto fild mirrors in when you switch off/lock up, but I would imagine it would be better for them not to auto fold out again when you open/switch on.

in a carpark, someone could easily have parked too close next to you and your mirrors folding out could either touch it or when you drive off, they could catch on something that wasn't there when you parked up.

see what I mean? or am I just being finicky?

If you cant reverse the car because the mirrors are poking out would you mind explaining how you got into the drivers position ? It would be dangerous for predestrians in the first instance.

well, a) it might well be that a car parked really close to you and you had to crawl in through the passenger door/boot :) or alternitively, perhaps a van with stick out mirrors has parked up next to you and you'd snag them on the way out.

also, you may still have someone helping you reverse to stop you running people over.

<shrug> it was only an idea...

silly question, but how do you know if you have elec folding mirrors?

There's a button to fold them, usually near the mirror adjuster button.

I have a w210 pre facelift with electric folding mirrors
I too would like them to fold on the ignition
Dont think its possible though

On my CL500, holding the door locking button down closes the windows and sunroof. Pushing the same button whilst pulling on the door handle to about 2 cm opens the sunroof, winds down the windows and turns the drivers seat's air conditioning on.

Comfort opening/closure is available on most Mercs these days. But I have never heard of having to pull the door handle - is this a CL thing?

On my s-class, both opening and closing simply work by keeping the unlock or lock button on the key depressed while pointing at the receiver in the door handle.

Mine works from the key fob and I only discovered the door handle feature by accident one day when locking via this method (I was using keyless go) and I held the button down longer than usual and the sun roof began to close. The feature is undocumented in my owner's manual and I only discovered the opening feature by a similar accident, opening the door one day, once again via keyless go, and held the door handle half open for a few seconds and, hey presto!, the windows began to wind down and the sunroof to open. Maybe it's a keyless go feature?

what does it look like?

It looks like this:

The top two buttons above the mirror adjustment switch are to fold/unfold.

Maybe it's a keyless go feature?

Quite possibly and that would explain a lot - when using the key, there is little point in also having to pull the handle, it's easier just to point the key and press either button for open or close. But of course keyless usage must also be covered, so perhaps that is where this comes from. :)

On the 211 it's in the "Settings" menu driven from the wheel. They can be set to fold in on locking and out again on opening a door. It's not related the the engine running.

With an imagination like that you might get a job writing the news.
