Engine diognostics???? Limp home mode

Does anyone know if by changing the EGS would sort this problem? I can buy one from ebay for about £100 - £200. And also how hard would this job be to do?

Sorry to be a pain, does anyone know where the EGS is located? as I have found on other forums that maybe an oil leak could be a possible cause onto the electrics.

Thanks for your help everyone

What do you mean by EGS?

Your best bet is to get it diagnosed PROPERLY rather than bunging parts on it and hoping for the best. Find a good independent (search on here) in your area with a Star diagnostics machine and let them have a look at it for a few hours.

The oil leak you suggest does not effect the CDI models.

Bu the look at that fault code you may have a DPF filter issue.

Thanks Blackc55

I have been to 4 garages all claiming to be Mercedes specialists and they dont like to say for certain. And they all send me away, possibly because it is something they dont want to get involved with it.

To be honest I dont know what to do, I feel like im bangin my head against a brick wall.

Ive had star diognostics on it, and it reads the fault above.

One garage did suggest the EGS (electronic transmission control) could be the problem, im lost with it.

Thanks anyway, You said DPF???

124 works in kirkham Lancashire?
... not too far from u...

I would gladly help you out, but I'm in Portugal.

Do a search for "w203 auto gearbox reset" and follow the procedure strictly for what it is written. Maybe you have a good surprise.

(Does your car has DPF, being an 02 plate?)

Regards

Man, just have a garage with a STAR reset the EGS. It won't cost much (maybe for free), and you will get an idea of how it performs after it.

Also, when was the last time you changed the gearbox oil?

Hi

Its not that im being tight I would gladly pay to have the job done. I have had it on the Star computer. but no one, and I mean no one will help me in the garages I have been to 6 garages now... Are mercedes really that hard to work on???? Gearbox oil ??? I have just purchased the car. I cant even check it. I really appriciate your help as you guys on here have helped me alot more than the garages. I just dont know what to do, I have the readings and they make no sense to me or the people at the garage....

??????

Thanks again

Check the maintenance records if they changed the gearbox oil last time. This should be done every 50k miles or so. Have you tried searching for the reset procedure?

Try this:

1. Get in the car and close the door.
2. Turn the key to the ignition ON position WITHOUT GIVING THE ENGINE START
3. Make sure the box is in "S" - standard
4. Floor the throttle pedal for 15 seconds (can be more)
5. With the pedal at the bottom, turn the key to the OFF position without removing the key
6. Release the pedal and do NOT REMOVE THE KEY
7. Wait 3 minutes
8. Exit the car. Lock it. Wait another minute then get into the car and drive normally, check that now the car has more response.

Maybe you got lucky :)

hi

I have checked all the records and they show that all services are up to date, also tried the reset - no joy, and also I have already had the fuel filter changed. The garage said they had resetted the faults. but they have relogged.

P2001 component N15/3 ( ETC control module) is faulty. - Stored and current

This is the only fault left that is current. Do you think this maybe electrical or mechanical?

Thanks

This does not work. I have proved it with the Star. It is just a placebo.

That fault code often comes up. It does necessarily mean there is anything wrong.

The problem you have sounds just like an engine issue rather than a gearbox one. They are separate units and diagnosed separately.

Forget about the EGS for now as you have lack of power. If your car was not changing up any gears, then look at the gearbox for issues.

It is difficult to assume all of the above but what limited info I have in front of me it very much looks like a engine issue.

You may not have fault codes but you have lots and lots of information that can be checked with a Star. You just have to know where to look and to interpret the information.

If six garages have had a look at your issue it maybe not straight forward to find, I suspect it is not easy at all in fact.

If you can find anyone in your area to fix it maybe it is time to take it to a main dealer?

Just had a thought. It maybe worthwhile checking if your CATs are blocked.

Or if the turbo's geometry is getting stucked...

Just a thought, or rather a speculative thought: Can this be due to a broken torque converter?

Thanks guys you have been really helpful. im going to book in at the dealer as a last resort, just one more thing- is this code suggesting that the etc is faulty then? I will pass all the info on to the dealer and see if it helps them.

Im not buying the faulty control unit. Have seen this current many times on star with absolutely no detremental effects. And even if it was faulty it would be unlikelt to have an intermitten effect in the way you describe

No, not at all. As I have just said this code comes up ALL THE TIME, it does not mean that it is actually faulty. I am almost 100% sure you have an engine fault not gearbox. So forget about this code. I call these type of fault codes Bulls*** codes. They pop up all the time.

Don't tell the dealer about the code, they will see it anyway. Let them look at it and see what they say. Post back when you get a result.
