Is it a coincidence that the yellow engine light has come on after my battery has to be replaced??

I was on the motorway, put my foot down to overtake ... The light came on, I had no power and it felt like I had a flat tyre!

Pulled off the motorway got out to take a look .. no flat. ?

I had replaced the battery earlier in the day after the old one had truely died. I replaced it with a new one from Mercedes.

Has anyone got an idea of what this could be? Do i need a trip to the main dealer?

Any help guys?

Cheers.

Electrical Woes

First, Are the Battery connections "Clean and Tight" ??? [And correctly "Polarized"]
[Negative to Negative AND Positive to Positive]
Why did you have to replace the battery?
(The answer to this question will help you answer your "Cause of Action"
inquiry.)
If by Yellow Engine Light ,you mean what we call in the 'States a CEL
(Check Engine Light)?
Your cause may be an Alternator problem.
(Scenario: New battery Runs Automobile UNTIL Voltage/Amperage drops below threshold necessary to run engine. 'Without Re-Charging from a properly operating Alternator sooner or later the car rolls to a halt.) [The CEL turning on would only have been an intermediate stage]
It may be as simple as a bad Voltage Regulator in the Alternator...
A Multi-Meter hooked up to the Battery's terminals, with the engine running
will tell the tale.(If the Alternator isn't putting out 12.75 to 14.5 volts...It's Ill.)
