Engine oil Temperature

Interesting. Can you elaborate on the drain down issue?

MB dealer just gave mine a B service and used 0w40 oil. All previous services used 5w40.

Interesting, which dealer if I may ask?

The drain down issue was applicable to the M156 engine, in particular the earlier ones. I believe there were a number of parts modified in later models e.g. head bolts and buckets etc. The bucket drain down issue essentially meant that if the engine is left standing for a lengthy period of time the oil drained down, hence on start the engine was noisey and rattly, also said to relate to premature cam shaft wear etc. Apparently, this led to the change in oil recommendation of 5w40 to help with this.

I am just an owner and there are better experts here on the forum who can advise, but there are other threads on this forum and others about this.

Hope that helps.

Definitely helps, thanks.

I purchased the face lift model in the hope that I wouldn't be affected by the head bolts issue.

Sinclair in Cardiff. I've found mention of a recommendation for 5w40 for the m156 in the c63 on the AMG Private Lounge forum, but that's back in 2008 (pre facelift, pre changes to prevent headbolt issue). Is there anything official?

I'm pretty sure the MB/AMG recommendation for M156 is still 0w40. There was an article on here a couple of years ago.

Says Mobil 1 on my recent invoice from Mercedes Ascot.

Does anyone here clean their oil cooler on M156 with pressure washer or can that damage it or maybe the net in the front spoiler/oil cooler?

Saw this clip (in German, used translation) where the mechanic recommended to use high pressure washer on the oil cooler to remove dirt, flies etc. I think it makes sense, I even thought about if spraying alkaline degreaser to remove more organic dirt. Just wondering if that can damage the oil cooler.

He said it is common 75% of the oil cooler are covered in dirt etc and rain/wind from driving don't reach to clean it which affects engine temp.

Clip starts when he talks about it:

Too add my C63 (M177) was serviced by a specialist that digitally stamps the service book too and they used the Petronas oil and I haven’t seen any increase in temps.

I always wash the front radiators and coolers when washing my C63 just don’t point the jet washer directly too it as it will bend the fins, wash it at a angle or just a softer head. Doesn’t hurt to use snow foam first to help break down dirt either!

The increase in temps is most likely due to weather change
