Engine Overhaul ?? Cost ?? Location ??

To be honest and open about this. I have a 190 with a goosed carb. I also have a spare 190E 2ltr Cylinder head (injection). I also have a customer with a blown 230 engine. He is prepared to pay me to rebuild an engine for him. So, I take Flossies engine out. Get it worked on and fit to customers car. I take 2ltr engine and do that up and fit to either Flossies car or 190.

I'd do it differently for simplicity.
Just get the two 230 engines done and back into the respective cars if the TE in question is worth saving, then do the 190 2.0 seperately.

Then you have two cars to either sell or use as loaners.

If the TE isn't worth saving then don't have it other than as a breaker.

He's going to fit pedals and a chain drive....

Nice idea :D But I have another plan. I have a good block from a 190 2ltr. I also have a good cylinder head from a 2ltr 190. Soooooo lets fit the head to the block, put on the 230 inlet manifold and see if it runs. Might even be tempted to try to fit the 230 head to the 2ltr block. There is no guarantee that all this will work, but to save a 124 you have to go the extra mile. Apart from which Flossy is a new Mb owner and I think we all would like her to remain an Mb owner :D

Just an update. Spoke with Flossy last weekend and brought the car up here on a trailer. She told me that someone had done a compression test and declared the engine u/s. WRONG!! I wish some so called mechanics would do a proper diagnosis. Compression test showed zero compression dry and the same wet. Took the head off this morning to find what I expected, a burnt valve. I have a spare 230 head which is ready to fit. Waiting now for the head gasket. The car should be returned to its owner by Wednesday.

Good diagnosis Ian. Buy yourself a cylinder leakage tester it will diagnose valve or bore wear much quicker and more accurately before any disassembly.
