as the title my w124 estate rear window washer jet is not working now i have done a few things to try and get it fixed but i can not get it working looking for suggestions work that has been done
1 new washer jet pump checked and working 100%
2 changed the relay
3 made sure the jet was clear etc
4 cleaned out water tank completely and put brand new water in

but still no joy any help please

Does the pump run or not? If it does then it must be a piping / non-return valve / jet problem

If the pump doesn't run, does the rear wiper work? The pump electrical feed (or earth, not sure which) is switched via contacts on the rear wiper and is routed via a relay on the tailgate

This is true for late cars but early ones may differ

yes the pump works the water jet is clear of dirt would it be the switch the rear wiper works when the you press for the spray but no spray is happining

Like Nick says check the actual pipes and their connections. Open the tailgate, unscrew the piece of plastic moulding in the estate roof and have a look at the connections on the right hand side - these had come undone in our estate - reconnect and voila water again!

thanks mattc and bolide wasn't sure what you meant bolide i apologise

What I found with our E300D was that the washer hose was split as it routed through the rubber tube between the car body and the tailgate - next to the driving side tailgate hinge.

After operating the washer a few times, the water was leaking down the inside of the tailgate, but none was coming out of the jet.

I obtained some new pipe, and used the old pipe to draw the new through. There's a non-return valve wrapped in foam inside the tailgate, between the hinge and the jet, and there's also a convenient joint in the hose just inside the car, above the rear headlining, where you can just push the new hose on.

If you find your pipe has split, owing to the non-return valve, you need to buy a bit more new pipe than is strictly necessary, to enable you to draw the pipe back after fitting the valve - if you buy 2m of pipe, you'll have plenty.

It could be the famous problem where the washer jet pipe sticks to the inside of the wiper shaft and eventually the washer input pipe fractures at the wiper motor, filling the inside of the tailgate trim with washer fluid.

See this thread and this one

>>where the washer jet pipe sticks to the inside of the wiper shaft

Thay're completely seperate on W124s - the washer jet is at the top of the tailgate screen and squirts downwards, while the wiper pivots near the lower edge of the glass.

To state the obvious - I'm sure I don't need to tell you but ......

There is a seperate tank in W124's for the rear washer fluid, in the compartment at the right side of the boot, with the jack etc - there is fluid in there isn't there?

Sorry for stating the obvious.

Tim
